The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for an experienced Accounting Operations Manager who will be a part of the team in our Linthicum, Maryland office.

Our office is near the BWI airport. We are required to be in the office on Tuesdays/Wednesdays with remote working on Mondays/Thursdays/Fridays.

In General

This position is responsible for overall management of the staff, systems, and policies/procedures related to accounts payable, general accounting, and cash management to ensure efficiency as well as compliance with internal policies and procedures and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for nonprofit organizations (GAAP). This position plays a key role in managing relationships with internal and external parties, including banking and investment institutions to ensure compliance with respective agreements. The Accounting Operations Manager will identify issues, advise the Finance Director and CFO on identified issues and assist in their resolution. Supports the following AUA entities: AUA, AUAER, UCF.

Typically

The individual in this position:
  • Supervision: Provide direct day to day supervision and oversight of the Accounts Payable staff, Accounting Coordinator and the Accounting Specialist.
  • Accounts Payable (including cash disbursements): Oversee staff, processes, and systems for corporate accounts payable and cash disbursements to ensure efficiency and accuracy, and compliance with corporate policies/procedures and GAAP.
  • Corporate Card Program: Review and approve all corporate credit card transactions and manage processes and systems to ensure efficiency, accuracy and compliance with corporate policies/procedures and GAAP.
  • Cash and Investments: Monitor cash account balances through on-line banking and recommend intercompany payments to the Finance Director and the Vice President, Finance (CFO). Serves as liaison with banking and investment company personnel regarding service agreements and fees.
  • General Accounting: Review and post monthly and quarterly journal entries completed by other Finance staff to include accruals, allocations, fixed assets/depreciation, recurring and adjusting journal entries, etc.
  • Account Reconciliation: Review monthly/quarterly/annual account reconciliations prepared by others including cash, accounts payable, debt, and other accounts.
  • Annual Audit & Tax Return Preparation: Supervise the preparation of PBC items requested from the independent accounting firm in order to assure a successful audit and tax preparation process. Review in-progress audit working papers to ensure the annual financial information is presented in conformity with GAAP. Assist with the preparation of the Federal and State informational returns (990) and unrelated business income tax returns (990T).
  • Annual Budget Process: Participate in and provide support for annual budget process including review and development of budget submissions.

    Candidates must have effective attention to detail and be collaborative. It is essential that the individual in this role must good supervisory and time management skills and have the ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage multiple tasks. In addition:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum six years' experience in not-for-profit accounting or finance department; Four or more years of public accounting experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years management and supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience with audits and automated accounting systems.
  • Experience with not-for-profit organizations preferred, including month-end close processes in coordination with the preparation of internal and external financial statements.
  • Record of continuing professional education.
  • Intermediate MS Office and accounting software knowledge necessary.

    Salary range for this position is $88,000 - $94,000 a year.

    Please note this is a base compensation range and, as such, there is no guarantee you will be offered the maximum amount for the position. Your base compensation will be determined by your overall qualifications, which will be assessed based on your knowledge, skills, competencies, and years of experience.
