Job Responsibilities

This is a supervisory position and will directly supervise three employees.

Under limited supervision, performs legal work relating to allegations of Medicaid Recipient fraud by beneficiary. Primarily assigned to the Special Prosecution Section to prosecute cases, supervise an attorney and support staff, and provide supervision and legal advice to investigators on active investigations involving Medicaid Recipient Fraud.
  • Manages and supervises the workload assignments, reviews work product, and coordinates activities of investigators and other staff within the Medicaid Recipient Fraud Unit as directed by the supervisor.
  • Supervises and manages assigned employees (legal and/or non-legal) to ensure compliance with the section's mission and all policies and procedures. Mentors attorneys and other staff to ensure professional development.
  • Manages the efficient and timely resolution of Medicaid Recipient Fraud cases, drafting comprehensive legal memoranda, pleadings, and briefs.
  • Advise public agencies on legal matters and serve as primary counsel on assigned topics. Provide legal advice, assist law enforcement with Medicaid Recipient Fraud Investigations, and collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Advises and consults with DAG, SADAG, and CDAG on all legal and administrative matters. Works closely with SC Department of Health and Human Services Division of Program Integrity.
  • Performs other related assigned job duties as directed by supervisor and Chief Deputy Attorney General.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Juris Doctorate Degree and ten or more years of practicing experience.

Necessary Requirements: Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.

Additional Requirements:
  • This position may require overnight travel.
  • This position may require you to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires up-to-date certification(s).
  • You may be required to travel to court and transport files.
  • Must be flexible to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires excellent written and trial skills;
  • Ability to analyze investigative reports and make prosecutorial recommendations.
  • Ability to lead and manage staff.
  • Must be organized and be able to work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to interpret laws and apply laws in court decisions.
