We have an immediate opening for a full time, temporary, MANAGER, LEGAL & REGULATORY and CORPORATE PARALEGAL (14-Month Contract)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager, Legal & Regulatory, is responsible for providing day-to-day risk management services to the organization. This includes the management of corporate legal matters (including representation at the LTB for complex matters), arrears collections, management of external counsel, contract tracking, oversight of risk and corporate insurance programs, acting as Privacy Officer, and responding to internal and external inquiries as needed.

Salary Range: $84,118 - $94,632

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary internal contact for regulatory and legal matters, providing subject matter expertise and collaborate with external counsel and internal stakeholders to recommend appropriate action.
  • Manage and execute all corporate filings.
  • Manage inquiries from external counsel, organize and coordinate the provision of necessary documentation and information.
  • Maintain contract tracking database.
  • Act as corporate Privacy Officer and administer corporate Privacy Policy.
  • Draft legal notices and applications.
  • Attend hearings and meditations at the LTB, Small Claims and other Tribunals.
  • Maintain legal files and precedent library.
  • Report on outcomes
  • Provide training to the Resident and Property Services division.
  • Commence actions or prepare defenses for Small Claims matters.
  • Create and implement a risk management strategy and review corporate policies and procedures against the strategy.
  • Establish a system for monitoring orders, mediated agreements and payment plans.
  • Lead legal team.

Education and Qualifications:
  • Be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (a Certificate of Good standing must be provided as issued by the Law Society of Ontario)
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • A valid Class G Driver's license and daily access to a reliable vehicle

Special Requirements:
  • Be bondable and be prepared to execute a Bondability Affidavit.
  • Position is based at the Head Office located at 155 Queen Street North, Hamilton, with the possibility of a hybrid work option available.
  • Regular hours of employment are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday with some possibility of work required outside regular hours.
  • Regular travel throughout service regions
  • Considerable time in front of a computer screen
  • Successful candidate will be subject to a satisfactory police background check.
