The Technology Engineering Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing advanced control systems and technology platforms to enhance industrial operations. This role requires expertise in process control, automation, and communication protocols, with a focus on integrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex systems. The candidate will leverage their technical skills to deliver innovative solutions, ensure system reliability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives and operational goals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design and deploy Advanced Process Control (APC) systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Configure and maintain communication protocols, including OPC DA/UA, Modbus, and DDE, to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Develop and implement Human-Machine Interface (HMI) solutions using Wonderware, Delta-V Live, and other platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize control systems, including tuning PID controllers and resolving network communication issues.
  • Perform system installations, commissioning, and start-ups for new facilities or upgraded control systems.
  • Collaborate with plant and corporate teams to ensure alignment with project specifications and operational needs.
  • Configure and deploy virtualized environments using platforms such as VMware ESXi, Nutanix, Delta-V Virtual Studio, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Design and maintain network architectures for control systems, ensuring robust cybersecurity and operational integrity.
  • Analyze process data, perform step testing, and identify key variables to develop APC models for plant optimization.
  • Provide 24/7 technical support for critical systems, ensuring reliability and operational continuity.
  • Create detailed technical documentation, including guides for system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead or support risk assessments, feasibility studies, and site evaluations for control system projects.
  • Develop training materials and deliver training sessions to stakeholders and operators on control systems and APC applications.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including company and client-specific requirements.
  • Drive innovation by identifying and implementing emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and system performance.
  • Prepare engineering sketches, perform engineering calculations, and develop analysis models for complex control system project assignments.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other consultants to coordinate control system project deliverables.
  • Set realistic expectations and ensure assigned control system projects are completed according to schedule and within budget.
  • Adhere to company quality standards and follow engineering checking and approval procedures.
  • Comply with all company and client health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards as well as federal and local HSSE regulations.
  • Actively participate in company and client hazard identification and observation programs and immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions, or incidents to your supervisor.
  • Visit job sites to evaluate site conditions and project requirements for control system installations and upgrades.
  • Visit vendor facilities to inspect control system equipment for compliance with specifications.
  • Plan and manage workload, budgets, and project resources, requesting assistance as necessary.
  • Assess feasibility of control system projects by evaluating materials, costs, and time requirements, applying knowledge of engineering and advanced mathematics.
  • Manage client relationships and develop repeat business opportunities for control system projects.

Undertake initiatives for risk management and take appropriate steps to address risks.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical, Electrical, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in control systems engineering and advanced process control applications.
  • Industry experience required.
  • Field experience required.
  • Proficiency in DCS platforms such as Emerson Delta-V, Yokogawa Centum, and PLC systems like Modicon and Allen-Bradley.
  • Expertise in configuring OPC communications and industrial network integration.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as VBA, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with virtual platforms like VMware ESXi, Nutanix Delta-V Virtual Studio, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial network architecture, Windows OS, and cybersecurity practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deploy APC solutions to optimize plant operations and energy efficiency.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
