Job Description
Job Title: Med/Surg Level 1 Registered Nurse

Job Specialty: Acute - Med/Surg

Job Duration: 14 weeks

Shift: Rotational Day/Night/Weekend/Holidays, with 2 on-call shifts in 4 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Full Time

Experience: 2 Years in a Med/Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse

License: RN Licensure

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS

Must-Have: NYS RN Licensure, BLS, ACLS, PALS

Job Description:

- Apply nursing knowledge and skills in the delivery of care.
- Assess patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data gathered through direct observation, technology, or health team communication.
- Create a developmentally and culturally relevant, individualized plan of care addressing the health problems identified.
- Set goals in collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members; monitor patient progress and adjust the plan as necessary.
- Promote, advocate for, and protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient, encouraging mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- Teach others as appropriate and delegate tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice, emphasizing the responsibility to ensure public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
- Motivate patients and families by teaching what is needed for continuing care and healing at home; assess learning styles and structure sessions to maximize understanding, providing tools and information to assist post-discharge care.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, using quality improvement activities to initiate changes in practice and care delivery when necessary.
- Engage in self-evaluation to identify strengths and areas for professional development; take accountability for increasing knowledge and enhancing skills.
- Develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship with patients and families by being present, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating needs.
- Acknowledge the patient and family as the central focus of all care and services, embracing the creation of a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice.
- Demonstrate skill in the application of interventions, including medication administration, understanding the occupational exposure risks.
