The WBG's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) work is based on three pillars: Advocacy, Accountability and Inclusion. Advocacy (demonstrating leadership and building partnerships) involves mobilizing WBG leadership, staff and communities of practice and collaborating with development partners and external D&I practitioners. Accountability refers to setting goals and measuring outcomes. Inclusion focuses on embedding diversity into talent processes and creating a respectful and inclusive workplace.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will serve as the focal point for the World Bank Group (IBRD/IDA, IFC, MIGA, ICSID and GEF) on organizational diversity and inclusion issues and will lead efforts in close partnership with management, EIJ VPU and staff in defining and inculcating the DE&I agenda in HR strategy and operations at large. The Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion provides strategic advice and support to senior management on approaches to diversity and is charged with keeping the Bank Group's program for DE&I visible and relevant. The position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the WBG VP for Human Resources.
The Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is responsible for the following areas:
Solutions and Results to Clients:
Lead the development of the WBG's DE&I agenda as part of implementing the WBG's HR Strategy, and support implementation directly and through the HR Business Partners and other Centers of Expertise to enable successful delivery.
Advise the Senior Management Team and provide intellectual leadership on measures related to increasing representation of women, under-represented nationalities and races, persons with disabilities, and other minorities.
Coach leaders on behaviors to create and model an inclusive environment.
Provide solutions to reduce biases and create a supportive work environment and an organizational culture that values staff.
Provide guidance and input to Human Resources and line managers in developing strategies and actions to enhance diversity, source for recruitment, and increase the representation of under-represented staff in operations, management, and senior technical positions.
Promote organizational and interdisciplinary collaboration among programs to enhance diversity awareness and inclusion.
Track progress of the implementation of the DE&I Action Plan.
Coordinate and facilitate the work of DE&I networks such as the DE&I Advocates, Country Office DE&I Representatives, Employee Business Resource Groups, and affinity networks and initiatives that promote a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Coordinate and facilitate the functioning of the WBG DE&I Council.
Coordinate with and represent the WBG on the IFC DE&I Council.
On behalf of the WBG CDI, develop, implement, and facilitate meetings of the WBG External Advisory Panel on DE&I.
Develop a base of best practice knowledge on organizational diversity programs and manage knowledge sharing among senior management, HR staff, and the WBG community at large.
Devise, track, and regularly report on diversity indicators to the Board, senior WBG management, and staff.
Promote awareness of diversity through communications materials, training, awareness-raising sessions, special programs, and seminars.
Be a member of the WBG Conflict Resolution Network.
Advise all WBG units on measuring and assessing diversity and inclusion progress and identify action steps for improvement.
People/Talent Management
Model exemplary WBG leadership values and managerial behaviors and reinforce these qualities in own staff
Drive and inspire technical excellence by creating an environment of learning and innovation that attracts and develops the best talent reflective of the diversity of our clients
Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and feedback to develop a high performing and talented team
Knowledge Management
Ensure adequate flow of knowledge and expertise so that clients receive the highest quality support and knowledge as needed
Model and actively champion the importance of adhering to organizational policies and procedures, including confidentiality
Build and maintain networks of senior D&I professionals in other international organizations as well as key global companies in the private sector to share information and bring in the latest external thinking and best practices
Act as the institutional representative on organizational diversity issues in international fora and networks
Resource Management
Be accountable for delivering the agreed upon work program through cost-effective use of resources (human and budget) within the agreed parameters and in compliance with internal controls and policies
Selection Criteria
Passion for the WBG mission
Demonstrated leadership values and exemplification of WBG managerial and core competencies and WBG core values, as referenced below
Master's or PhD degree in a relevant discipline, and typically the successful candidate will have at least 12 years of experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility
Deep understanding of Bank, IFC and/or MIGA operations is essential
Demonstrated experience in successfully translating business and HR strategies into the design and implementation of programs in the position's areas of responsibility
Ability to handle complexity and ambiguity and deal with competing priorities and tight deadlines
Mental agility to keep pace with a constantly evolving business environment
Highly developed personal integrity, strong values and ethics
Experience in managing large scale change management
