Our organization is expanding and we are looking to hire an experienced Plant Controller located in Gaffney, SC. Summary/Objective

The Plant Controller position functions as a business partner with plant and financial management to effectively manage and control the local business. Leads the administrative and internal control staff at the plant and is accountable for plant-level responsibilities including general accounting, payables approval (including PO approvals), cost accounting, bill of materials, capital expenditures, customer chargeback analysis, budget and forecasting, business analysis, financial reporting, and plant business systems. Will also liaison with corporate financial and IT staff, as required.

  • Prepare and report weekly and monthly cost results; weekly and monthly forecasts; annual operating and strategic plan.
  • Responsible for internal controls at the plant for operations, sales, and finance.
  • Analyze and accurately report current month's financial results to the plant, and corporate management in accordance with corporate format and time requirements.
  • Submit all financial transactions, transmissions, and reporting on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments.
  • Perform audits of bills of materials to ensure product costs are accurate.
  • Ensure timely and accurate input of bill of material and price code changes.
  • Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations.
  • Calculate and set standard rates.
  • Maintain a perpetual inventory and reconcile this perpetual to production, shipping, and returns.
  • Attend daily plant production meetings.
  • Perform walkthroughs of the plant with the Plant Manager, as needed, to discuss production and costing issues. Review labor reporting and cost, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution cost, returns and inventory levels.
  • Conduct formal meetings with manufacturing, finance and sales management personnel, both at the plant or Corporate, to discuss plant issues, as needed.
  • Champion and train plant staff on business systems including ERP/MRP and reporting conventions.
  • Serve as the on-site business systems expert.
  • Analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items.
  • Reconcile all inter-company accounts monthly.
  • Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
  • Active leader and participant in cost improvement projects including tracking of target savings

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports and is responsible for the performance management and in that department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional manufacturing office and shop floor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position may occasionally require extended hours and/or weekend work.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5-10 years as plant controller or cost manager in a manufacturing environment, with and emphasis on cost accounting, reporting, and variance analysis.
  • High level of proficiency in PC spreadsheets and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize.
