The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Accountable for provision of competent direct patient care based on established standards. Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level. Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services and assumes an expanded role which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs and documents patient care, medication administration, care plans, and patient education in a competent and efficient manner, following all policies and procedures. Identifies patient problems and collaborates in developing a plan of care based on existing standards and long-term goals. Implements age-specific, culturally, and spiritually competent nursing interventions to address patient/family needs and response to procedures, therapies and medications. Evaluates basic and complex patient/family response to procedures, therapies, and medications identifying concerns/issues and revising plan of care based on patient and/or family response. Recognizes changes in patient status and responds effectively. Communicates change in patient status to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
- Maintains positive relationships with all members of the care team. Resolves conflict positively and in a timely manner, working directly with co-workers to address issues. Treats patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, and respect for diverse view points and cultures. Communicates effectively in written, verbal, and non-verbal interactions with healthcare members, patients, and families. Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and assignments to meet patient and unit goals. Models ICARE Values for other unit staff and patients.
- Demonstrates development of leadership skills, including communication, delegation, organization, and proactive thinking. Serves as charge nurse when appropriate. Serves as a secondary preceptor or serves as an effective Practice Based Learning (PBL) preceptor after completing PBL preceptor required education. Participates in Career Advancement Service (CAS) roles as appropriate (See CAS Roles Policy). Participates in shared governance as appropriate.
- Reviews and evaluates evidence from literature and best practices for application to patient and unit needs. Assists with collection of data to support unit performance improvement activities. Participates in nursing quality improvement initiatives.
- Completes CAS Yearly Requirements. Completes 7 Contact Hours. Meets CAS role expectations for the year as appropriate. Meets unit and service requirements, such as charge nurse or support new learners. Maintains PBL Preceptor yearly requirements as appropriate. Completes required annual education and competency skills demonstration. Completes yearly performance review. Creates annual performance goals and periodically evaluates progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduates before 5/2020: Diploma Degree, Associates Degree, or BSN and 1 year RN experience in acute care setting required or
- Graduates after 5/2020: Diploma Degree and Associates Degree must achieve BSN within 5 years from hire date per URMC policy, or BSN 1 year RN experience in acute care setting required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Performance rating of "Successful" or higher to advance required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in NYS upon hire required and
- When eligible, professional certification in specialty -or- AHA Technical Certification Instructor (manager approval required) upon hire preferred
