Summary:
Under general supervision, will provide compassionate and excellent patient care by performing courteous, efficient, and accurate service. Assists with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations. Mentors clinical personnel, and serves as a liaison with patients, staff, providers, and leadership. Can perform independently or as part of a treatment team.
Responsibilities:
Provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests, and prescribe medications for children and adults.
Obtains medical histories and performs and records physical examinations. Records pertinent progress notes in the medical records and develops treatment plans. In addition, the Nurse Practitioner will initiate life-saving measures in emergency situations.
Consult with other providers on medical care as necessary.
Manage patients who do not require complex medical management or specialized treatment.
Maintain quality assurance of charts and testing.
Handle telephone calls and follow up care about services rendered from patients, providers, company accounts, as well as other clinical staff.
Maintain excellent and timely patient records for clinical use, billing use, physician and peer review.
Educate patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments.
Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan and implement individual patient care appropriate to the age and specific needs of the patient.
Communicates appropriately with the person serves regardless of their age.
Complete charting and required paperwork in a timely manner.
Attend required provider/staff meetings.
Participates in quality improvement teams, and other committees, as needed.
Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established department policies, procedures, and objectives.
Other information:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduate of Nurse Practitioner program with MS degree. Current RI NP license that includes prescriptive privileges. Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role.
Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS)
EXPERIENCE:
Clinical experience as a nurse practitioner for 2 years is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital, physicians' office and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of departmental policies and practices; generally consults with supervisor where clarification and/or interpretation of specific complex problems may be required.
