PRODUCT INNOVATION R&D: PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST

Your role:

Principal Scientist will have significant responsibility on ingredient research, food application design and innovation pipeline. Other requirements include:

Assist and influence cross functional partners in the evaluation and optimization of ideas, from qualification into innovation pipeline to new product development Resilient problem solving skills, awareness of documentation requirements and collaboration with cross functional partners (e.g., manufacturing ingredient specifications, customer ingredient specifications, nutrition statements, etc.), proficient in sensory science and statistics (design of experiments, six sigma principles as applied to process control)

Your responsibilities:

Design and execute experiments, write SOP's & protocols for new procedures, synthesize data and prepare results for review Lead collaborative interactions with a broad group of internal & external partners including academic researchers, analytical service providers, consultants, ingredient suppliers, equipment manufacturers, IP lawyers, and regulatory professionals Perform ingredient screening, carry out shelf-life experiments and develop well-defined test objectives for sensory experiments Maintain a lab notebook, upload data into knowledge management system and present research findings in a succint well-organized manner to the team members and cross functional peers Develop and lead ingredient evaluation and characterization tools that effectively support R&D projects Build team capabilities and knowledge in the areas of wheat flour milling, emerging nutrition and relevant applications Provide general lab support, able to teach and train others, purchase equipment and supplies, maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including routine maintenance & cleaning of equipment, utensils and work surfaces, and ensure compliance with all safety policies and practices.

Essential skills and experience:

B.S. with 15+, M.S. with 10+ or PhD 8+ years of product development experience in food and beverage industry. People management experience desirable Strong written, verbal and oral communication skills Demonstrated knowledge of new product development process from concept through commercialization Decisive and have sense of urgency in moving projects with speed and accuracy, while demonstrating competency in driving improvements in raw material and/or application formula and process development Experiences collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, Marketing, Supply Chain, Quality, Legal, Regulatory, etc. Proven ability to build win-win working relationships Master food ingredients and relevant applications with awareness of the competitive and regulatory landscapes Self-starter with high level of results orientation & proven track record of acquiring proficiency in new technologies Fundamental understanding of analytical methods, ability to interpret (and challenge when applicable) analytical data and how to apply it in order to instill technical excellence in project execution Proven experience in applying statistical principles to various situations that may arise in product or process development

Good to have:

Experience across various application platforms (process). Most desirable are bakery, breakfast cereals, snacks, cereal/protein meal bars and confectionery Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously Must be passionate and driven, yet flexible and willing to embrace changing business priorities and ambiguity
