Pay Range:
CX11 (Entry Level) - $73,228 - $81,131
CX15 (Senior Level) - $81,071 - $89,731

Work Year: 260 Days / 8 Hours

SUMMARY: The Network Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the district's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, wireless systems, and cloud-based technologies. This role includes ensuring network security through cybersecurity measures, providing Tier III technical support, and maintaining accurate network documentation. The position also involves collaboration on technology projects and researching innovative solutions to improve system efficiency. At the senior level, responsibilities expand to overseeing network infrastructure design, leading advanced cybersecurity initiatives, managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and driving the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance system reliability and performance.

Job Responsibility Descriptions for All Levels
  • Network Support: Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the district's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless systems.
  • System Monitoring: Utilize diagnostic tools to monitor network performance and ensure optimal operation of hardware and software.
  • Cybersecurity Measures: Support the implementation of cybersecurity protocols, including applying updates, patches, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams and SOPs.
  • Technical Assistant: Provide Tier III support for network-related issues, escalating complex problems as necessary.
  • Project Participation: Collaborate on technology projects, contributing to planning, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Innovation and Improvement: Research and recommend approaches to enhance system reliability and efficiency through automation and best practices.

  • Infrastructure Oversight: Oversee and plan network infrastructure design and ensure high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Cybersecurity Leadership: Lead implementation of advanced cybersecurity initiatives, including risk assessments and compliance. As well as ensure network infrastructure adheres to cybersecurity best practices and policies.
  • Project Management: Lead projects by defining technical strategies, managing resources, and ensuring seamless transitions from development to production. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate, plan, and deploy new technologies.
  • Documentation and Standards: Create, contribute, document, and maintain network diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), system standards, and operational guidelines.
  • Mentorship and Collaboration: Mentor and provide guidance to Network Engineers and other technical staff.
  • Innovation and Development: Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches to enhance system efficiency

  • EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    For All Levels:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or a combination of degree and related experience.

    For Senior-Level:
    • Minimum of three years of experience in telecommunications, system administration, or managing large-scale network infrastructures.
    • Proven experience in project management and leading technical teams.
    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    For All Levels:
    • Valid Colorado driver's license.
    • Criminal Background Check required for hire
    • CCNA, Comp-TIA Network + and Comp TIA Security + certification required or obtainable 6 months after hire

    For Senior-Level:
    • CCNA, Comp-TIA Network + and Comp TIA Security + certification required
    • CCNP certification required at hire
    • Additional certifications in advanced networking or cybersecurity (e.g., CISSP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) preferred

    TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
    • Position deals with a variety of problems and sometimes has to decide which answer is best. The question/issues are typically clear and require determination of which answer (from a few choices) is the best.
    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, peripheral, and typical office equipment (e.g., telephones, copiers, fax machines, email)
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, VSIO, and various analysis software and tools.
    • Operating knowledge of installation and management of network hardware and software, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
    • Layer 3 routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) and VLAN protocols.
    • Networking knowledge of switches, routers, hubs, servers, cables, racks, firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, latency, VoIP, and QoS.
    • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, including threat mitigation and risk management.
    • Familiarity with cloud network technologies and their integration into hybrid environments.
    • Project management skills, with a focus on resource allocation and stakeholder communication.
    • Problem-solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
