Job Description Summary
The Business Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of faculty financial accounts, processes and reporting, including all pre- and post-award activities for the iSchool faculty assigned to the Business Manager's portfolio. This individual will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of both sponsored and non sponsored accounts, ensuring that resources are well managed, accurately reported, comply with federal and state regulations as well as University of Maryland policies and procedures and all sponsor regulations and reporting are completed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing all aspects of proposal submissions, in tandem with the principal investigator; approval and oversight of all account expenditures; completing monthly account reconciliations; providing faculty and researchers with accurate account reports, spending plans and forecasts; monitoring effort compliance and salary support for all personnel supported by faculty accounts; creation and monitoring of subawards; completing award close-out procedures; providing account advice and decision support in accordance with sponsor and University policies and procedures; and identifying issues of concern and providing solutions by providing a proactive account management approach.This position must adhere to University financial management standards, general management and accounting principles, practices, methods, and techniques. A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply various policies and procedures to real-world situations. In addition, a successful candidate must be enthusiastic, positive, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have a demonstrable ability to take initiative. Excellent communication skills, since the Business Manager will be required to regularly meet with faculty to review awards and their funding situations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or travel coordination experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
