Description:
R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is currently seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our Mechanical Group at our Mississauga office. We specialize in a variety of projects, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, transportation infrastructure, condition audits, and water/wastewater facilities. Our success is built on supporting the entrepreneurial efforts of our staff, and we are looking for a candidate with mechanical HVAC design experience to contribute to our dynamic team.
The role involves providing HVAC and plumbing design, conducting field surveys, preparing specifications, and managing construction administration. The successful candidate will be client facing and play a key role in project management, mentorship of junior staff, and contribute to business development efforts.

Role Specifics
The position will involve carrying out the following tasks:
- Providing HVAC and plumbing design, drawings, specifications and construction reviews for a variety of building services including municipal, industrial and commercial;
- Coordinating with project stakeholders to integrate HVAC systems into the overall project;
- Preparing, reviewing and approving technical documents, drawings and specifications;
- Overseeing the installation, testing, and commissioning of HVAC systems to ensure compliance with design specifications;
- Assessing the sustainability and environmental impact of systems and recommending energy efficient solutions;
- Managing project schedules, resource allocation, and budget to ensure projects are completed within established parameters;
- Effectively communicating with project stakeholders and outside agencies;
- Troubleshooting system-related issues during and post installation;
- Writing reports and supporting documentation for project submissions;
- Proposal writing;
- Engineering support to multi discipline project teams as needed;
- Mentoring junior staff;
- Other duties as required
Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:
- Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario with a minimum of 7 years of mechanical design experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is essential
- Strong understanding of current industry regulations, standards, and best practices
- Hands-on experience with HVAC systems and proficiency in CAD and HVAC design software
- Knowledge of municipal and provincial approval agencies' processes and guidelines
- Strong proposal and technical writing skills
- Strong Project Management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organization skills
