POSITION SCOPE
The Rail Analyst will play a critical role in managing Soufflet Malt'srail logistics, ensuring cost efficiency, and providing key analytical support.This role requires a blend of data analysis, logistics expertise, andcollaborative problem-solving to optimize our rail fleet operations and supportbusiness objectives.

Hourly Rate: $31.43 -$47.15 per hour DOE
Newly hired incumbents are placed on the salary scale based on their education, training/skill, and experience, as applicable.

POSITION SCOPE
The Rail Analyst will play a critical role in managing Soufflet Malt'srail logistics, ensuring cost efficiency, and providing key analytical support.This role requires a blend of data analysis, logistics expertise, andcollaborative problem-solving to optimize our rail fleet operations and supportbusiness objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Logistics Duties: Support the day-to-day logistics process, monitor and track the movement of railcars across North America, and Maintain and optimize the utilization of the company's private rail fleet.
- Internal Support: Serve as a point of contact for internal teams (e.g., Customer Service, Operations, Finance, etc), addressing logistics-related questions, providing shipment updates, and ensuring timely responses to inquiries regarding rates and shipping details.
- Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement: Identify inefficiencies or gaps in the logistics process and recommend data-driven solutions for continuous improvement. Implement best practices to enhance system accuracy and reduce operational cost. Support the S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) process by integrating rail logistics into demand planning.
- KPI & Performance Metrics Analysis: Track, analyze, and report on key logistics metrics (KPIs) to assess the performance of carriers and logistics operations. Provide actionable insights to support the logistics team's strategic and operational goals.
- Reporting & Insights: Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports on TMS metrics, carrier performance, and overall logistics performance. Present key findings to management to inform decision-making.
- Carrier Relationship Management: Assist the Logistics manager in collaborating with carriers to resolve issues, optimize shipping routes, and ensure smooth execution of all logistics processes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.), and familiarity with logistics management software (TMS, ERP systems).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively address logistics inquiries and present data-driven insights to stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes of issues and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively across different departments and teams.
- Comfortable analyzing large data sets with BI tools and Excel.
- Results-oriented and using facts and data to support recommendations, make decisions, and track results.
- Project management and presentation skills to support transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Self-starter, self-managing, multi-tasking, confident.
- Highly organized with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation/Logistics, Data Analytics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in Data Analytics
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in the logistics industry, Bulk commodity logistics experience preferred.
- Knowledge of North American rail networks and rail logistics terminology is a plus.
- Experience with BluJay or other TMS systems.
- AdvancedExcel Skills, and experience with BI reporting tools, Word, and PowerPoint.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Standard office environment.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required of all employees when on manufacturing and distribution sites.
