General Description

Administers employee Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave and other leave programs, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, and Virginia Retirement System (VRS) application processing.
Essential Job Functions

  • Administers and ensures compliance with FMLA regulations and CCPS policies.
  • Administers and ensures compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations.
  • Administers school board policies related to leave of absences.
  • Serves as point of contact for eligible employees transitioning to short term and long term disability through The Standard.
  • Administers employee retirement programs.
  • Completes records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal and state laws, school board policies, and provider rules.
  • Conducts individual counseling sessions for prospective retirees. Interprets and explains policies, procedures and retirement laws to employees, retiring employees, and beneficiaries.
  • Determines retirement eligibility of members; researches and computes benefit options; computes purchase of service, withdrawal of contributions and deferred retirement calculations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Prepares a variety of periodic reports related to retirement, leave of absences and workplace accommodations.

Equipment Operation:

Regularly utilizes basic office equipment such as computers, phone, and scanner.

Virginia Retirement System, CCPS employees and retirees.

Decision Making:

Independent decision-making is used when concerns or questions come up that can be solved logically in the position. The Director's approval is recommended when the concern or question is more complex.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:

Provides feedback to the Director of Compensation and Benefits on benefit policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to find, reach with hands and arms, handle paper files, records, computer and equipment controls and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and drive. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office environment. The noise level is mild to moderate.

Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures. Considerable knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and VRS procedures. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in a tactful and confidential manner in stressful circumstances to all levels of personnel. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of member data.
Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate related field or a combination of education and extensive work experience that is comparable. Prefer professional-level and progressively responsible benefit administration or HR experience in a setting of related scope and complexity to a school division or similar environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite preferred.
