Job Description:
The International Staff Attorney provides legal support to business units to achieve business goals while ensuring legal compliance and consistency. He/She is directly involved in developing and implementing business strategies that have a long term impact (i.e., 3-5 years) on the organization. This position typically handles more substantial projects (e.g., M&A, JVs, etc.) and contracts. The International Staff Attorney supports regional and global contract negotiations (and occasionally more complex local contract negotiations), translating customer and company agreements and responsibilities into legally binding contractual language that complies with UPS requirements and applicable laws. He/She ensures consistency in the legal and business positions taken by UPS and supports the fact finding and evaluation of legal matters. This position reviews applicable laws, policies, and regulations to determine positions that best protect the company. The International Staff Attorney evaluates, manages, and mitigates risk for the organization. He/She is generally responsible for multiple countries and cultures, a District, a very significant country, or the Region (including countries where the International Staff Attorney has not qualified). This position interacts/negotiates regularly and independently with senior management and external parties (e.g., customers, government authorities, etc.), including those with conflicting interests. The International Staff Attorney manages litigation, including complex litigation. He/She manages outside counsel (OC) in representing UPS and monitors and manages legal expenses to contain costs. This position may manage others in the department.
UPS is a diverse and equal opportunity employer. Accommodations are available, on request, for candidates with disabilities taking part in the recruitment process. If you are selected to participate in the recruitment process, please advise if you require accommodation for a disability.
