The Associate Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for managerial leadership and complex technical work across a wide range of EHS disciplines. The role will be based on-site at Tesla's lithium refining plant in Corpus Christi, Texas and will report to the Director of EHS. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and execute EHS programs in support of Tesla's Texas Lithium Refining Operations and within the existing framework of the Tesla EHS Management System to protect people and the environment.
Tesla's Lithium Refining site is fast-paced and challenging. The ideal candidate should be comfortable in both a self-sufficient role, as well as one of larger team support and engagement. Ownership of work is extremely important. The candidate must be motivated, agile, have a technical and analytical orientation, and possess strong time and project management skills. Responsibilities
  • Lead EHS operations by proactively controlling EHS risks and managing EHS staff
  • Oversee the implementation of EHS policies, procedures, systems, and programs necessary to continuously improve and foster a positive EHS culture
  • Establish, develop, track, and communicate plans to meet EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPI) targets and achieve Objectives & Key Results (OKR)
  • Develop, mentor, coach EHS team members based on data driven performance assessments and stakeholder feedback
  • Proactively collaborate with EHS global and regional functional leadership to ensure the participation in and consistent implementation of EHS initiatives
  • Prepare and present EHS performance updates, event reports, compliance documents, assessment reports, training, budget/funding requests, and statistics that are technically accurate and complete
  • Actively work as a key Management of Change (MoC) stakeholder to ensure that production and facility changes result in improved controls of EHS risks


Requirements
  • Degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering or Safety-related discipline. CIH, CHMM preferred; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience working as an EHS professional focusing on reviewing, implementing changes to, and continuously improving EHS processes, preferably in the following industries: Lithium or other metal refining, battery cell manufacturing, heavy chemical, oil & gas, semiconductors, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or research and development industries
  • 2+ years as a people manager that has directly managed EHS staff and their professional development
  • Practical, hands-on experience with the following: Risk assessment, equipment and process safety, machine guarding, control of hazardous energy, industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, environmental compliance, emergency response, hazardous materials management, and event investigation and analysis
  • Ability to quickly adapt, adjust schedules when needed, take initiative, prioritize and work effectively within a fast-paced innovative environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence and communicate with associates and all levels of management.
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, Power Point, Project, etc.)
