Hopewell currently has a full-time on-site, hybrid, or remote opportunity for an Estimating Manager to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimating and Analysis
  • Comprehensive specification review, analysis, and management
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
  • Root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action relating to costing and supplier performance
  • Accountable for creating project budgets and implement standard procedures to maintain a high standard of quality
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Perform in-depth analysis of cost reports to include forecast analysis and variance explanations and to ensure competitive advantage in the home building industry
  • Develop metric(s) to measure and manage key deliverables related to the Estimating department
  • Responsible for overseeing contract profitability analysis on sales agreements
  • Complete monthly margin review on all possessions, and recommend changes to base models
  • Prepare conceptual estimates by interpreting historical data

Relationship Management
  • Provide resourceful collaboration with business partners, and/or internal departments with quantitative analytics to provide solutions for mutual benefit
  • Collaborate with the Senior Managers and teams to determine accurate standard specifications, and operating procedures.
  • Ensure specifications and procedures are clearly outlined in the scope of work for each trade/supplier and are incorporated into Trade/Supplier Contractor Agreements
  • Oversee Costing Estimator(s) to ensure that accurate take-offs, quantities, and estimates are entered into the operating system
  • Communicate with the Product Development Team to provide value engineering analysis and costing on new models, parts, products, and elevations
  • Work with the Design Sense Studio to design product packages and presentation from our suppliers and trades that are cost effective, provides choice and ease of service for customers

Additional Responsibilities
  • Coach and mentor estimators to ensure effective preconstruction services and personal career development
  • Ensure all products and services retained comply with safety, municipal and provincial building code requirements
  • Remain current on industry trends, including innovative products, construction techniques, and trends impacting the home building industry
  • Monitor and communicate hard-cost changes due to cost increases to the Executive
  • Research and minimize material, trade and supply partner related variances
  • Responsibilities of this position will require hands on estimating
  • Provide back-up support within team, as coverage is required
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned


Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in estimating in the residential construction industry, preferably local;
  • 5+ years of previous supervisory experience in similar role a must;
  • Previous experience with Job task planning, decision making and problem solving.
  • Hold a post-secondary degree or diploma in architectural technologies, engineering, construction management, project management, estimating or other relevant disciplines will be of benefit.
  • Relationship orientated with focus on both internal and external customer needs;
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Previous experience with NewStar, Teams, Monday and Bluebeam or similar takeoff software is considered an asset but not required.
  • Excel in a team environment;
  • Detail orientated;
  • Strong analytical, math, and computer skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft office;
  • Advanced communication skills, written and verbal;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Managing multiple projects at any given time with the ability to change directions efficiently at any given moment.


Working Conditions:

Traditional core hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work may require occasional weekends and/or evenings. Some travel may be required.
