Neonatal Nurse Practitioner/NICU Physician Assistant

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking one (1) full-time faculty Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Neonatal Physician Assistant with expertise in NICU for a position as a Specialist in the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. UT Health San Antonio Department of Pediatrics has a robust research program supporting cutting-edge investigation, multidisciplinary programs, a well-established long-term neurodevelopmental program, Neonatal Nutrition and Milk Bank program, participation in VON, ELSO, and multiple opportunities for NICU QI as well as cardiac QI through NPC-QIC.

The major criteria for appointment for clinical faculty are excellence in clinical care, scholarly activity, and service in the area the individual is expected to fulfill.

The clinical service is centered in our brand-new Women and Children's Hospital NICU. We have a Level IV NICU and Level IV maternal delivery service with ~6,000 births/yr. The NICU is an 81-bed NICU composed of a combination of single rooms and 16 open bay beds with flex beds to expand up to 90+. Clinical services include ECMO, iNO, whole body cooling, HFOV, pediatric surgery, and all pediatric surgical/medical subspecialties. Teaching residents, fellows and medical students is an integral part of the job.

The selected individual will function as NNP/NICU PA directing medical management of infants in various settings including the delivery room, special care nurseries, well-baby nurseries, and transport settings. Currently, 4 hospitalists and 10 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, 3 Neonatal PA's manage various teams of high-risk neonates in collaboration with a faculty neonatologist and other members of the health care team including dedicated pharmacists and neonatal dieticians. Weekend and night call availability is required in addition to weekdays. A Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Neonatal Physician Assistant with NICU experience is preferred.
