Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.

Position Overview

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of families affected by domestic violence? Our Domestic Violence Intervention Program is dedicated to enhancing parenting capacity and ensuring the safety of families referred by the Ministry. We're seeking a skilled Clinical Counsellor to provide therapeutic interventions and support to both perpetrators and victims of domestic abuse. In this vital role, you'll help promote family wellness and facilitate meaningful transitions, including reunifications, through culturally responsive, one-on-one and group counseling services. Make a difference where it matters most!

Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will provide individual counseling and co-facilitate therapeutic groups for clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, including both perpetrators and victims of domestic abuse. Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments and safety plans in collaboration with families, MCFD staff, and community partners, while participating in Integrated Case Management meetings. The counsellor will maintain accurate client records according to MCFD and agency standards, stay updated on community resources for referrals, and implement trauma-informed interventions. Additionally, they will administer assessments to identify client concerns, develop and implement therapeutic service plans, and engage in clinical supervision. A commitment to culturally sensitive practices and continuous learning about clients' worldviews is essential. The role may also involve maintaining a caseload of clients and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will hold a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, with eligibility for registration with a professional body (RCC preferred). The candidate must have specialized training and experience in delivering trauma-informed services, along with a solid understanding of family therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and multi-generational trauma. Experience working with Aboriginal families, LGBTQ individuals, and those facing mental health or substance use issues is essential. The candidate should also have a collaborative approach to working with MCFD and community partners, as well as a valid Driver's License and access to an insured vehicle for work purposes. A strong awareness of how culture, identity, and diversity impact the counseling process is crucial. This role focuses on engaging both men and women from South Asian backgrounds, so proficiency in Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu is a plus.

Candidates should demonstrate professional etiquette and adhere to the Society's ethical standards, working both independently and collaboratively within a team. Flexibility, initiative, and effective leadership are important, along with strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Crisis line experience is an asset. The ability to develop program-related materials, prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues is also required.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.

This position falls under the Bargaining Unit (BCGEU), and the classification is yet to be determined based on the BCGEU JJEP Wage Grid.
