General Manager Northern Grain & NA Fertilizer - Minneapolis, MN

Reporting to the VP, Export & River, this position leads the Origination teams for the Northern Grain and North American Fertilizer assets and is also responsible for the hedging and risk management of multiple commodities.

The primary roles of the General Manager position is to provide strategy and oversite to the trading teams to ensure that they strategically source grain to the processing assets and export markets in the most efficient, cost effective way and, as such, will be responsible for the grain P&L at each location within the territory. The Vice President will also be responsible to oversite of strategic sourcing of Fertilizers and complimentary agronomy products along with the business strategy for Farm Direct and Wholesale Fertilizer sales, and will be responsible for the NA Fertilizer P&L.

Candidate should have advanced knowledge of commodity market trends, futures, spreads, and option hedge positions. A solid understanding of North American transportation systems and vessel freight is ideal. The position requires the candidate to be up to speed on macro-economic events that affect the commodity market place. The ideal candidate will provide market knowledge to the ADM Commercial teams and customers via reports, conference calls and customer visits.

The main duties of this role will include:
  • Managing the Northern US grain business and North American Fertilizer, including the trading activities and P&L responsibility for the region
  • Overseeing the position and risk management and trade flows of all products within this region
  • Managing the trading, and commercial teams and being responsible for the development of personnel
  • Overseeing the Financial Services business group which provides operating lines of credit to Co-Operatives and independent grain and agronomy business in the region
  • Achieving optimum financial results related to returns on invested capital and other corporate financial metrics
  • Providing leadership to multiple joint ventures in both grain and fertilizer
  • Collaborating with global trade to find profitable ways which expand the value chain as well as offerings to the ADM customer base
  • Working closely with IT, finance, HR, legal, operations, government relations, credit, and sustainability teams to meet ADM and customer requirements efficiently and effectively
  • A comprehensive understanding of currency impacts to the business
The candidate
The successful candidate will possess the following:
  • University degree in Business / Economics / Agriculture
  • At least 10 years' experience in the Commercial / Agricultural Exchange / Derivative sector
  • Highly motivated candidate looking to compete in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong experience and proven track record in risk management in the agricultural sector
  • Fundamental and technical trading skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment
  • Strong people leader, able to manage a diverse and multi-national team.
  • The ability to quickly analyze considerable global commodity market information and be able to process and synthesize the data to make critical trading decisions
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Language - English required

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
