Description:

We are looking for Staff Lawyer (hybrid, full time - one (1) permanent position) with a minimum of three (3) plus years of criminal and/or family law experience to join our team at the Melfort area office.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Legal Director, some of the key responsibilities of the Lawyer are:
  • Conduct of assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Conduct preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews & appeals.
  • Negotiate competent resolutions of files to achieve fair, early and lasting outcomes for clients.
  • Represent clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas and remands both in-person and remotely.
  • Work independently on cases as assigned by the Legal Director.
  • Complete and accurate time entry and record keeping.

Position Requirements
  • Experience in criminal law.
  • Experience in family law.
  • Law degree from a recognized law school.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Valid Driver's License - Class 5.
  • Technologically savvy with a keen enthusiasm for learning new systems including, computer literacy in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources.
  • Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income and marginalized communities.
  • Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.
