Farmer Mac is looking to hire a driven, analytical, industry focused and personable individual with seven (7) or more years of renewable energy, lending, or related experience, for the position of Portfolio Strategy Analytics Specialist - Renewable Energy.
Position Summary
The Portfolio Strategy Analytics Specialist - Renewable Energy will be responsible for managing Farmer Mac's existing portfolio of complex renewable energy project finance loans (both recourse and non-recourse of various types including projects under construction, projects in operations, construction bridge loans to tax credit monetization) to independent power projects as the primary officer, which includes coordination with the Credit and Underwriting team and relationship manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and managing loan modification/consents/amendment requests, term conversion, refinancing, legal document review, coordinating with loan operations on reviewing and processing borrowing and disbursement requests, interfacing with internal stakeholders, including Underwriting, Credit, Capital Markets, and Loan Operations. This role will work closely with Managing Director, Renewable Energy and Credit to monitor and provide strategic credit assessment of the Renewable Energy portfolio and may provide support to underwriting of new loans, preparation of credit memos, performing and managing due diligence activities, industry and market analysis, preparing and/or reviewing complex cash flow project finance models, closing activities, and assist in the execution of loan purchases.
This role is expected to immediately contribute towards accelerating growth within Farmer Mac's Renewable Energy business and significantly contribute to Farmer Mac's strategic objectives and initiatives.
The role is specifically designed to act as a portfolio manager of Farmer Mac's renewable energy project finance portfolio of renewable energy (wind, solar, biomass, hydropower, geothermal), electric facilities (energy storage, transmission/distribution lines) and ag-processing energy infrastructure (renewable natural gas) areas. The suitable candidate must be able to broadly evaluate the operational and financial performance of the underlying asset, validity of the borrower's cash flow projections and creditworthiness based on an assessment of contracted revenue structures, merchant revenues, power market outlook, policy drivers, technology, engineering/design, operational plan, management, and overall capital structure. This role will be expected to collaborate with the relationship manager, underwriter and Managing Director of Renewable Energy to attend lender meetings and interact with agent banks regarding operational performance, structuring, credit analysis, negotiation, documentation review, and execution of financings.
Suitable candidate must be a proactive self-starter, be able to work and complete various deals at multiple stages of development, work with minimal supervision, and be an active and efficient communicator.

The Portfolio Strategy Analytics Specialist - Renewable Energy will be an integral part of the Infrastructure Finance team, reporting directly to the Managing Director of Renewable Energy and will have regular ongoing interactions with the Underwriters, Senior Managing Director of Infrastructure Finance, Capital Markets, Transaction Management, and internal and external advisors and legal counsel. The position will also have a high degree of interaction with Farmer Mac Credit Approval Committee, including the Senior Vice President - Chief Credit Officer.

Farmer Mac is committed to a compensation program that will enable the organization to attract, motivate, reward, and retain highly skilled and creative talent to maintain sustained long-term performance and achieve the organization's strategic business objectives. The typical base pay range for this role is $125,000 - $185,000, although wages can vary based on experience and geography. Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Monitor Renewable Energy loan performances and collaborate with key internal stake holders including Credit team, underwriters, relationship managers.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director of Renewable Energy and the Credit team to perform strategic credit assessments of the portfolio, ensuring alignment with business strategies and performance goals as outlined in Farmer Mac's business plan.
- Act as a primary contact with administrative agents of loans to:
- Prepare and manage loan modification/consents/waivers/amendment requests, term conversion, legal document review,
- Coordinate with Loan Operations on reviewing and processing of borrowing and disbursement requests, and
- Gather appropriate project information and documents for due diligence and provide support to credit underwriters, as necessary.
- Gather and assess industry information to understand macro impacts on the portfolio and individual transactions.
- Interact closely with Underwriting to support loan acquisitions in alignment with Farmer Mac policy and standards.
- Assist in underwriting analysis and credit approval memos when necessary
- Work closely with the Managing Director of Renewable Energy in the development of management reports that include quarterly monitoring of portfolio deals as well as portfolio trends and statistics.
- Assist and support the ongoing development of the loan administrative, operations and closing functions, and the implementation of infrastructure projects.
- Represent Farm Mac at industry conferences and individual lender visits.
- Support organization wide initiatives and processes to improve efficiency, productivity, sourcing and credit quality.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, engineering or related field.
- Thorough understanding of accounting and financial statements and project finance lending preferably within the Renewable Energy sector.
- Working knowledge of leveraged lending, commercial banking, and other capital alternatives in a leveraged lending environment.
- Strong business development, leadership, interpersonal, organizational, credit, presentation, marketing, negotiation and decision-making skills. Ideal candidate will be thoughtful, inquisitive and curious in nature with heightened attention to detail appropriate for transactions of significant size and risk.
