About the Role
As Asset Health & Safety (H&S) Manager your key responsibilities will include leading LNG Canada to achieve key business metrics, including health, safety, emergency response, industrial hygiene, contractor HSSE performance, production, and operating costs. Collaborating with Industrial Partners, Regulators and the community will be a key element of this role. This role reports to the Sustainable Performance & HSE Manager that is on the LNG Canada Asset Leadership team and reports to the president of LNG Canada.
This senior role offers the unique opportunity to shape the LNG Canada HSSE Operations organization and ensure that is set up for success. The role can be called upon to support the LNG Canada HSSE team in the project execution (e.g., incident investigation, specific expertise areas).

- Implement and maintain fit-for-purpose H&S and emergency management policies, plans, and procedures.
- Provide support and mentoring to asset team and focal points; develop training deliverables and ensure LNGC staff are briefed and have good awareness of the regulatory elements of H&S and emergency management, update processes and policies with changing regulatory requirements.
- Support supervisors, and all LNGC staff to understand and be compliant with all regulatory requirements.
- Provide quality assurance to H&S and emergency management processes and carry out LOD1 activities.
- Manage AMS processes and implement improvement opportunities.
- Identifying the required H&S competencies for all staff and provide input to training and competency development.
- Developing short term and long-term H&S and emergency management strategies for the site
- Identify opportunities to promote and improve efficiency of H&S and emergency management processes and how they are rolled out and communicated to the Asset Team
- Provide input, review and assurance of competence, training, procedures and policies, emergency response, safety case, contract management, incident investigations and learning.
- Performing an HSSE-CF gap analysis on the design and recommendations for gap closure
- Implementing the HSSE-CF system and management system for the LNG Canada organization for Operate including the compliance management system and assurance for H&S and emergency management.
- Ensure management system and compliance management assurance process meets regulatory requirements and reporting.
- Assuring that LNG Canada conducts its business in line with local regulations and standards and the LNG Canada HSSE policies and guidelines.
- Providing HSSE input to Operations Contract development
- Providing assurance and feedback to Asset Team regarding H&S issues that need attention and escalate those issues as appropriate if adequate action is not taken.
- Assurance of Statement of Fitness activities as set up in the handover process.
- Preparing the H&S annual work plan and budget and put controls in place for the expenditure.
- Monitoring and reporting of H&S and emergency management performance and compliance, share KPIs, look for weak signals and improvement opportunities as a learning organization.
- Assuring effective and timely injury case management and incident investigations
- Provide Occupational Health and support for Supervisors for case management.
- Developing an organization culture where staff are always motivated to accept challenges and uphold our core values and continuing to grow and embed Asset safety culture.
- Provide Industrial Hygiene support.
- Manage a recruitment and staff progression program that ensures appropriate resourcing and capability levels to meet operations objectives.
- Ensure that systems remain in place for effective emergency response and responsible for first line emergency response.
- Integrating H&S into site priorities to drive the organization to deliver expected, and sustainable performance and ongoing improvement.
- Learn from external engagements and forums to bring best practice ways of working and culture to LNGC.
- Continue to improve processes for the Asset and set up assurance and reviews of staffing, competence, training, procedures and policies, emergency response, safety case, contract management, incident investigations and learning.
Relationships
- Influence across Asset leadership on H&S, emergency management and contractor HSSE performance.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with Shell Group HSSE and arranging services and support to the broader Asset organization
- Build and maintain relationship with industrial partners, regulators, District of Kitimat, and larger community.
- Support the Corporate Relations team.
To be successful, you will have:
- University degree in related field of Operations and Health and Safety.,
- Over 15 years of progressive leadership and line management experience in Operations within the Oil and Gas or LNG manufacturing sectors, with a proven track record of advancing to more senior roles in Health and Safety and Emergency Management.
- Several years' experience demonstrating strong understanding of the OHS Regulations, British Columbia ER Emergency Management
- Direct experience in Emergency management team developing safety leadership in team and stakeholders and competency development.
- Ability to leverage and empower H&S team member's competencies to their full potential.
- Experience providing assessment and strategic advice to the business on all aspects of H&S and emergency management.
- Experience supporting and advising a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in all H&S matters.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with Senior leaders up to the executive level.
- Experience collaborating with the security Manager, effectively aligning policies, and conducting investigations as needed.
- Experience in Marine Facilities would be an Asset.
- Proven capability for delivery large asset role is essential.
- Mega project, Commissioning experience is considered an asset.

- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
- Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace). - Are willing to comply with LNGC's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
- Know that this role will be expected to be on call on a rotational basis during the year and/or during site specific situations and is a member of the Incident Management team.
- Know that the number of direct reports include Emergency Management, Investigation and Learning, Safety, Health Case Management, and Industrial Hygiene.
- This role also supports offices in Vancouver and Calgary.
- This role MUST be based in Kitimat, BC, this is not a fly-in, fly-out role.
