Description:
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Services Coordinator, the dietitian serves as a member of the healthcare team to plan, direct, and implement nutrition interventions for patients based on specified assessment criteria.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient, with awareness of the principles of growth and development, and assessment of data reflective of the patient's status to determine specific requirements and needs and responses.
Collaborates with other healthcare team members to coordinate therapy and plan post-discharge care.
Provides nutrition therapy and education to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Maintains professionalism by providing all services in accordance with clinical standards.
Serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns as needed.
Demonstrates the ability to adhere to all policies and procedures.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of all information pertaining to patients.
Displays a positive and professional image and attitude with patients, families, and coworkers.
Demonstrates ongoing responsibility for self-education.
Demonstrates effective critical thinking skills and judgment capabilities.
Demonstrates the ability to effectively plan, direct, and implement appropriate nutrition intervention.
Demonstrates the ability to counsel patients on nutrition issues.
Visits patients as directed by management or when needed as a means to improve patient satisfaction scores.
Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and quality of nutrition care provided, and makes changes when needed.
Demonstrates effective writing and speaking skills.
Demonstrates active listening skills.
Completes consults/assignments by the deadline.
Demonstrates willingness to assist in other areas as needed.
Successfully passes monthly chart audits.
Displays a positive attitude regarding constructive criticism.
The dietitian should demonstrate expertise in clinical dietetic practice and the role of nutrition in health maintenance.
Knowledge and application of medical terminology, pharmacology, and health systems are required.
Observes standards of practice with awareness of professional liability.
Communicates effectively with physicians, administration, other healthcare personnel, patients, and other clients while maintaining required confidentiality.
Responsive and takes initiative with problem resolution.
The ability to operate a computer, calculator, and a copy machine is necessary.
Capable of calculating therapeutic diets.
Competency in coordinating nutritional care activities to assigned patient care areas is necessary.
The position requires constant hand and finger movements, wrist movements, and sensory discrimination.
Frequent walking, standing, turning, sitting, reaching, carrying, and handling are necessary.
Occasional balancing, climbing, stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling are expected.
Rarely running, crawling, kneeling, lifting, and throwing are required.
Must be able to use visual acuity for close paperwork, color vision, depth perception.
Hearing acuity is needed for conversations, monitoring equipment, telephone, transcription, and background noise.
Must be able to lift, handle, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to operate computers, standard office equipment, and nutrition-related medical devices.
