Primary Purpose:

Assist in the administration of the Fine Arts Department, manage Fine Arts instructional programs, and supervise District Fine Arts program areas to ensure the delivery of a rigorous and aligned curriculum. Collaborate with others to continuously improve the District's Fine Arts programs, as well as advocate for and promote community engagement in District Fine Arts program areas. Perform administrative and supervisory duties to ensure the smooth operation of the Fine Arts Department and campus Fine Arts programs.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master's degree

Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of overall operations of music, art, theater, and non-athletic extracurricular programs

Strong leadership and communication skills

Knowledge of state policies governing extracurricular events and participation in UIL events

Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Assist with the coordination of all district level Fine Arts events and operations

Experience:

Five years of teaching experience in at least one of the areas of fine arts

Previous leadership responsibility in a fine arts area, such as department head, team lead, or curriculum design

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Curriculum & Instruction

1. Assist in the supervision of district Fine Arts program areas to ensure the delivery of a rigorous and aligned curriculum.

2. Provide K-12 Fine Arts teachers with the knowledge and skills to deliver the written, taught, and assessed curriculum effectively, thereby improving student achievement and program retention.

3. Plan, develop, execute, and facilitate professional learning activities for Fine Arts teachers.

4. Perform administrative and supervisory work involved in designing, developing, coordinating, implementing, evaluating, and revising Fine Arts curriculum.

5. Advise teachers and other district personnel in the selection, use, and purchase of instructional materials and equipment related to specific Fine Arts program areas.

Advocacy

6. Advocate for and promote community engagement in District Fine Arts program areas.

7. Organize and implement specific competitions and productions which are sponsored for District-wide involvement in specified Fine Arts program areas.

8. Assist with articulating the District's and Department's mission, vision, and goals as they relate to Fine Arts programs.

9. Solicit the support of the community at-large in the achievement of the District's and Department's goals.

Policy Reports, and Law

10. Enforce all state policies governing extracurricular events and participation.

11. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

12. Compile, maintain, and present all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.

Budget

13. Work with Fine Arts Administration regarding fees, fine arts budgets, purchasing, and order scheduling.

14. Assist with the development and monitoring of all extracurricular budgets in the fine arts and non-athletic extracurricular areas.

15. Prepare specifications for fine arts bids and supervise the purchase of fine arts materials and equipment.

Personnel Management

16. Assist with recruitment, selection and training of personnel and make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline and dismissal.

17. Assist with the implementation of the designated teacher appraisal system.

Community Relations

18. Demonstrate use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

19. Articulate the district's mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing the district's mission.

20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff in the Fine Arts Department.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED)

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move musical instruments

Environment: May work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district and statewide travel
