The Director, Credit & Risk is a senior leadership role helping drive sustainable client-centric growth while managing risk to prescribed levels. This role is responsible for leading teams within the credit & risk department focusing on credit risks associated with originating and maintaining client programs and customer purchasing accounts across several global B2B trade credit programs. This role directly leads a team of commercial underwriters focused on making and managing large dollar judgmental credit decisions informed by robust and ongoing financial analysis. The Director will provide leadership and direction in developing and implementing company credit policies and procedures, fostering collaboration with sales, account management, operations, marketing, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
As a commercial credit team leader, your role encompasses a variety of responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation and success of your team and the wider organization. Here are the key responsibilities:
Credit Risk Assessment, Team Leadership and Quality Assurance:
o Oversee the daily activities of commercial credit underwriters, and others as assigned, who assess and decision commercial credit applications using thorough analysis of financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant information.
o Provide training, guidance, and support to team members, fostering professional growth and ensuring high performance.
o Ensure all credit decisions align with the company's risk management policies and procedures.
o Ensure that all credit assessments and approvals are conducted in accordance with established guidelines and quality standards.
Strategic Planning and Decision Making:
o Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to manage and mitigate credit risk.
o Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in credit analysis and decision-making.
Stakeholder Communication:
o Work closely with other departments such as account management and operations to align credit strategies with business objectives.
o Promote maintenance of a strong relationships with clients, providing excellent service and support throughout the credit application process.
Requirements:
Advanced educational degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent; or formal financial analysis training and credit assessment courses
Proficient in commercial business credit philosophy and policies, loan documentation, bankruptcy, and regulatory environment.
Strong team leadership and development skills.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
10y+ commercial lending origination and oversight
7y+ team leadership
Experience using credit approval authority of at least $1,000,000
Experience with Moody's CreditLens
Experience in fraud detection best practices associated with on-line lending.
Experience with international lending.
