Staff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has openings resulting from our launch and expansion into the Michigan market. We are looking for an experienced supervising PIP defense attorney with 10+ years of civil litigation experience in handling these types of claims. This experience should include taking and defending depositions, negotiation proficiency, and experience successfully trying cases. Leadership potential is available as we continue to expand. Staff Counsel will be responsible for handling PIP files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary. A supervising PIP attorney will also be responsible for supervising 15+ attorneys within the PIP department in the law firm. All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral advocacy skills and strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Outlook and Westlaw. Ideal candidates will be well organized, detail oriented and able to independently manage a caseload where work is time sensitive.
Located in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, we provide a congenial, team-oriented professional work environment with skilled support staff, competitive salary and exceptional benefits. We currently operate under a hybrid schedule with attorneys coming into the office 2 to 3 days a week. This is subject to change.

Physical Environment: Working conditions are typical of an office environment. Required job duties consist of prompt and regular attendance, ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others; standing, sitting and typing for extended periods; and lifting and/or carrying up to 5 lbs. Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing. Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions. Candidates must be willing to work onsite in the Detroit, MI office*.
Office Location: Currently located in Downtown Detroit, MI but will be relocating to Southfield, MI in the next few months; We cover jurisdictions throughout the state of Michigan.

Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience handling PIP litigation from inception to conclusion. Additional handling of first and third party claims for auto carriers a plus
- Prior supervision of attorneys for 2+ years preferred
- Ability to take full responsibility for files
- Ability to audit files of other PIP attorneys under direct supervision to ensure accuracy
- Must be able to handle a full inventory of files
- Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience
- Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
- Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling
- Experience as first chair trial attorney
- Experience working in a paperless electronic environment
- Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
- Preferred qualification is the handling of Insurance defense matters
Additional Information:
- Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
- Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
