This key role on the Samuel Automation Tucson management team is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and support of the Engineering department. This role is instrumental in delivering business objectives and supporting a highly skilled team while coordinating activities with other departments to meet delivery dates per customer schedules.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Defines annual department objectives based on priorities assigned by the V.P. Operations and implements systems to accomplish these objectives and track progress
  • Responsible for the development, optimization, standardization, and execution of processes in Mechanical Design and Controls.
  • Ensuring departmental objectives and project milestones are achieved within budget and on schedule.
  • Takes a leadership role in developing and mentoring all direct reports; provides priority-based direction; conducts performance management reviews and implements development plans
  • Establishes and maintains Quality System procedures
  • Expedites operations to maintain schedules and meet unforeseen conditions; coordinates with department Managers and Project Managers, when changes need to occur to schedules
  • Driving standard methodologies to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and enhance productivity across engineering disciplines
  • Attends weekly production meetings prepared to provide update on Engineering department status on all projects and assist where required
  • Attends design reviews and project planning meetings as required.
  • Collects data and uses metrics to measure and track performance; manages communication of departmental dashboards for metrics
  • Recommends and implements continuous improvement measures within the Engineering Department
  • Creates and maintains an equipment plan (Automation Design Specification Summary) for Engineering resources.
  • Accountable for department-specific safety training and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws

Level of Autonomy and Authority
  • Operates independently within clear guidelines and defined business objectives.
  • Provides recommendations to senior management on strategic initiatives.
  • Oversees and develops engineering processes, ensuring they align with company standards and customer expectations.

Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a management role.
  • Extensive experience designing complex automation systems across multiple industries.
  • Demonstrated team building and leadership capabilities.
  • A visionary, "out-of-the-box" thinker willing to take calculated risks to drive innovation.
  • Strong strategy development, project management, and change management skills.
  • Professional, dynamic, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Valid State Driver's License and ability to cross international borders (Passport required).
  • Proficiency in business-related software, including Microsoft Office.

Working conditions
  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials. Must be able to work in all types of manufacturing environments
  • Light lifting may be required
  • May be exposed to medium to light noise levels
  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for an extended period
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
