As part of our commitment to excellence in supporting the SLS Core Stage 2 through Core Stage 4 vehicles, the following activities will be performed:
- Ensuring Compliance with NASA's High Standards:
Conduct thorough evaluations to ensure that materials and processes (M&P) parts meet NASA's rigorous manned spaceflight requirements, contributing to the success of the SLS Core Stage 2 through Core Stage 4 vehicles. - Leading Critical Material Test Campaigns:
Take the lead in the 2219-T851 thick plate material test campaign by:- Developing precise material cut plans.
- Partnering with Boeing labs to coordinate machining and testing.
- Analyzing data to provide valuable recommendations for material properties used in Core Stage stress reports, ensuring reliability and safety.
- Advancing Innovative Solutions for Fastener Installations:
Develop and execute a technical waiver for the dry installation of fasteners. This includes:- Designing and running a test program.
- Crafting compelling technical documentation to support the vehicle's use in its current configuration.
- Delivering Expert M&P Engineering Support:
- Review and approve engineering drawings with precision and attention to detail.
- Provide hands-on support at production facilities and strengthen subcontractor partnerships.
- Verify requirements, prepare essential contract deliverables, and tackle hardware anomalies with a problem-solving mindset.
- Championing Design Excellence:
Assess product designs to ensure alignment with NASA's M&P requirements. When non-compliance issues arise, offer thoughtful recommendations or technical justifications to resolve them during design, manufacturing, or testing phases. - Enhancing Materials and Process Documentation:
Drive updates to materials and process specifications to ensure effective deployment and consistent quality of materials, parts, and processes. - Qualifying New Materials and Processes:
Lead efforts to test and qualify innovative materials and processes, ensuring they meet the high standards necessary for mission success. - Building Strong Subcontractor Relationships:
Collaborate with subcontractors by:- Reviewing their processes and deliverables (such as MIULs and MUAs).
- Participating in regular interface meetings to strengthen communication and accountability.
- Guiding Waiver Management with Expertise:
Draw on deep knowledge of M&P and NASA programs to manage waivers for non-compliance issues. Work collaboratively with customers to deliver clear, practical, and timely resolutions. - Driving Continuous Improvement:
Play an active role in identifying and implementing corrective and preventive actions, contributing to the ongoing improvement of materials and processes within the program.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education/experience in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
- Must be US citizen for government clearance or contract compliance
