Job Title: Registered Dietitian Clinical Diabetes Educator
Job Specialty: Dietician
Job Duration: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 40
Experience: Minimum 2 years in a clinical health setting
License: Valid RDN License in the State of Alaska
Certifications: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist or BC-ADM credential; Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred
Must-Have: Background in Diabetes Education
Job Description:
- Provide comprehensive diabetes education and care for patients with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and those at high risk of developing diabetes.
- Educate patients via telephonic communication, video teleconferencing, and in-person sessions, occasionally requiring village travel.
- Order labs for patients according to hospital policies.
- Document education in electronic health records.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and providing diabetes-related health promotion activities.
- Work closely with village clinic and hospital staff to promote diabetes care standards and inform about new advances in diabetes care.
- Assist the Diabetes Coordinator with maintaining the Diabetes Registry and meeting grant requirements.
- Collaborate with the Diabetes Case Manager to ensure comprehensive client care.
- Participate in program outreach activities such as monthly Diabetes Support Groups, radio shows, media campaigns, and special events.
- Engage in department planning and goal setting to achieve patient care excellence and partnership with tribal leaders.
- Promote all corporate endeavors and perform other duties as assigned or required.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge base in diabetes and public health.
- Essential cross-cultural communication skills.
- Bi-lingual skills in Yup'ik/English preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer utilization and electronic health records.
- Ability to operate diabetes care medical equipment.
- Requirement for travel to villages via small plane/sub-arctic conditions, moderate lifting of equipment, and occasional long working hours.
All travelers are required to show proof of completed COVID vaccinations.
