Position Overview:
The Vice President of Strategic Planning and Implementation is a nerve center in the organization responsible for ensuring the PHS Team is aligned around common sense of vision and strategy and taking the steps needed to transform the strategy into results. This work includes designing and leading strategic and implementation planning processes; ; managing external relationships and inbound opportunities; directly managing strategic projects; designing and managing business and impact reporting and dialogues around continuous improvement; coordinating government relations; and planning and facilitating the work of the Board, Committees, and Leadership Team. The Chief of Staff works most closely with the President, Executive Vice President, and President's Executive Assistant, and serves on the Leadership Team.

Physical Demands:
This role can be physically demanding. You may be required to stand for up to 8 hours a day and lift 50+ lbs. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and your position may require operating a motor vehicle.
Standard Hours (including travel, evening, and weekend hours): PHS's standard office hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at team member's designated workspace. Some teams and positions work alternate hours because of the nature of their role at PHS. Your Business Unit's Working Norms document will identify alternative hours, if applicable.
Flower Show Requirements: Hours preparing for the show and the duration of the show may not follow your regular work schedule. Your Flower Show schedule will depend upon your regular position or your temporary position supporting the Flower Show. You may be required to stand for long periods of time, do extensive walking, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead strategic planning in close collaboration with the President, with a full strategic planning process every 3-5 years and updates to work and financial plans every year. Provide cross-functional leadership, coaching, and problem-solving to ensure implementation of the strategic plan.
- For selected strategic initiatives, directly manage the projects.
- Establish and manage processes for reporting on business and mission impact and using this data to drive continuous improvement. This includes partnering with the Manager of Impact Analysis on twice-yearly production, distribution, and discussion of dashboards to the Board and Leadership Team and designing and leading performance dialogues based on the dashboards.
- Support the President in building new partner relationships, working cross-functionally to evaluate and develop inbound opportunities into actionable projects, and then transitioning ownership to operating teams. This may include working with operating teams and grant writers to craft grant proposals.
- Lead government relations, including selecting and managing lobbyists, coordinating relationship management across the organization, setting government priorities annually, and ensuring achievement of those priorities.
- Supporting the President, Board, and Committee Chairs in planning the agendas of the Board, Committees, and Leadership Team and facilitating some discussions.
- Supporting the President and others on projects related to internal communications and culture.
- Representing the President and PHS in key external relationships, including serving on committees and boards on behalf of PHS and forming collaborations as needed to advance priorities.
Qualifications/Specification:
- Minimum degree required:
- None required. MBA or MPA would be helpful skillsets for this role.
- Years of experience:
- 7+ years senior leadership experience in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.

- Knowledges, Skills, Abilities required for success:
- Experience designing and leading strategic planning processes.
- Experience working in cross-disciplinary executive-level teams.
- Experience managing complex, cross-disciplinary projects.
- Ability to absorb and process feedback and information and distill key takeaways and action steps, manage competing interests, lead change, encourage progress, decision-making.
- Leadership and management skills, performance evaluation, strategic planning, financial management, work-planning, internal and external communications.
