Description:
The successful candidate will support the development of the next generation of communication optical fibers. They will support the development of characterization techniques for future communication optical fibers and the development of novel optical fiber manufacturing processes. They will use existing measurement equipment and analytical techniques, as well as develop new characterization techniques. They will perform statistical data analysis and develop automation to speed up data collection and data analysis. The candidate will support the new product introduction activities from concept to deployment. The job involves collaboration with a diverse team of engineers and scientists. They will work on a broad range of development tasks, so being highly self-motivated and an independent individual contributor is essential.
Requirements:
A Ph.D. or M.S. with 3+ years of work experience in Optics, Physics, or Engineering is required.
Hands-on experience working with optical test equipment (such as lasers, power meters, spectrum analyzers).
Demonstrated skills in developing optical measurements.
A theoretical understanding of optical fiber waveguides or electromagnetics is required.
Hands-on experience with optical fiber characterization is required.
Computer skills: MS Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SQL, database proficiency, experience using statistical software (e.g. R, JMP, etc.); experience with scripting/automation/programming tools (e.g. Python, Visual Basic, MatLab/Octave, Labview, C/C++/C#) are beneficial.
Experience in statistical data analysis and data-based decision making is required.
A working knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Six Sigma techniques is beneficial.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a diverse group.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required.
