Innovation is a core principle for how we build products for the future. We are looking for a highly motivated and technically capable individual to lead the Process Engineering group in the Powertrain department at Tesla's Fremont manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will build and develop a highly capable team that drives rapid improvements in process yield and critical process monitoring. The manager will be responsible for the quality and efficiency of the process through the product lifecycle for Tesla battery packs; from beta builds through launch and sustaining of the manufacturing line.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor and develop a strong team through selective recruitment, thorough and consistent on-boarding, training, and coaching. Identify and address competency gaps within the team in alignment to company policies and procedures. Proactively plan for labor needs ahead of critical new manufacturing lines
  • Standardize strategies and best practices to greatly accelerate readiness to deliver production volumes of new products while sustaining high quality and efficiency on mature manufacturing lines
  • Oversee a team of engineers responsible for robust process control plans to ensure the highest quality and performance in our products. This requires a deep first principals understanding of critical process control parameters (such as pressure, temperature, flowrate, laser power, fastening torque, etc.)
  • Oversee a team of line managers and technicians responsible for shiftly operational activities such as rework, scrap, MRB and non-conforming material accounting
  • Work cross functionally with other groups such as Quality, Production, NPI, Design, and Reliability to aggressively improve quality and cost


Requirements
  • Degree in Industrial, Equipment, or Mechanical Engineering or with equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in an assembly, manufacturing, or maintenance environment with a proven track record in improving yield, process capability, and anomaly detection. At least 2 years completed in a people management role
  • Proven first principals driven problem-solving across a wide range of physical, mechanical, and electrical fundamentals
  • Strong analytical capability and familiarity with analytical and statistical software systems (JMP, Minitab, etc)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be articulate and confident in presenting to executive leadership
  • Enthusiastic, innovative, and take-charge attitude. Able to work independently and set the team's priorities based on competing and urgent needs

    • Expected Compensation$112,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
