BCycle is looking for an experienced and motivated mechanical engineer to help develop our bike share products, including e-bikes, charging stations, and IoT accessories. This engineer will work alongside engineers and designers to improve and expand the product lineup.

Primary Responsibilities and Objectives:
  • Engineering design team member for bike share products, contributing to cross-functional team taking products from ideation to prototypes and into production.
  • Partner with product manager to define functional specifications that exceed customer expectations.
  • Conduct R&D on emerging technologies and materials relevant to bike share products. Then recommend new solutions for future products that enhance performance, sustainability, durability, and user experience.
  • Design and fabricate prototype components or assemblies as required during product development
  • Support technical operations in diagnosing and resolving issues with current products and processes. Identify root causes and develop revisions that increase reliability and performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to deliver more robust, efficient, and cost-effective products.
  • Assist project manager with stage gate development, documenting design processes, test results reporting, and communicating progress on assigned work.
  • Complete research and testing to ensure all products comply with industry standards and governing agency requirements. Be up to date on compliance regulations and work closely with relevant stakeholders to support certification processes.
  • Support the supply-chain and quality team in supplier qualifications and first article inspection reports
  • Produce/support technical documentation (catalogs, manuals, assembly instructions, etc.)
  • Foster relationships across the organization to develop product expertise.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be required as needed to support the team and organization.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science (minimum) in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology
  • 7+ years of experience in product development from design through manufacturing
  • Experience designing mechanical systems that contain integrated electronic modules that meet various IP ratings.
  • Experience using CAD modeling software (Onshape preferred) to create 3D models and 2D engineering drawings
  • Familiar with GD&T, FMEA, DFM, Lean processes and material/component selection.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with bicycle or e-bike design and/or maintenance.
  • Experience working in the micromobility, cycling and/or urban transportation infrastructure industries

Work Location Requirements:

This role is expected to be a flexible hybrid role with two to three days a week in the office, depending on project needs.

  • Ability to lift 25 - 65 lbs.
  • Domestic travel may be required up to 10%
  • Required standing or sitting for several hours straight at a time
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with company policy
  • Repetitive motion required of the wrists, hands, or fingers occasionally throughout the workday
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and video conferencing throughout the workday
  • This is a full-time position expected to work 40 hours per week. Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required.
  • By early 2025, we will be piloting a 32-hour workweek (4 days per week, 8 hours per day). Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required.
