The Bioprocess Development group in Salt Lake City is seeking a Scientist or Engineer to join a talented and collaborative team developing allogeneic cell therapy cell culture, harvest and formulation processes.

The Scientist or Engineer will perform process development, characterization, scale-up and technology transfer of DiscGenics cell therapy manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a dynamic environment performing responsibilities in development, pilot and GMP manufacturing environments.

This role interacts with all levels of the organization in a collaborative and positive way with colleagues to facilitate department and organizational initiatives for cultural cohesion aligned to the DiscGenics Values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute cell culture, harvest and formulation processes at 0.25L, 50L and 250L bioreactor scales in development and cGMP environments.
  • Perform design of experiment and execution for process characterization.
  • Scale-up and technology transfer to 50L pilot and 250L cGMP manufacturing.
  • Execute clinical batches in GMP manufacturing facility.
  • Lead documentation and execution of process investigations.
  • Perform and coordinate equipment troubleshooting, maintenance and calibration.
  • Perform data analysis and author technical documents including SOPs, protocols, technical reports and risk assessments.
  • Analyze and present scientific findings to relevant stakeholders in bioprocess development team and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and adherence to good documentation practices.
  • Actively seek out and execute opportunities for process optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as needed.

Job Requirements:
  • Experienced in developing and executing mammalian cell culture processes in flasks and stirred tank bioreactors.
  • Experienced in developing and executing cell culture harvest and cryopreservation.
  • Proficient in aseptic technique.
  • Strong understanding of mammalian cell culture, molecular biology and bioprocess engineering concepts.
  • Highly self-motivated, organized and responsive to feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Continuous improvement and right the first-time mentality.
  • Experienced in technical report authoring and review and presentation of scientific results
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and statistical analysis software (JMP, SIMCA, Minitab, Design Expert).

  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to report to work responsive, free from sedatives, and in a non-sedative state.

Education and Experience:
  • Scientific degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology or a related field.
  • PhD, or master's degree with 2 years relevant experience, or bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Biopharmaceutical industry experience.
  • GMP experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Position requires qualified individuals to see, hear and speak (verbally and audibly). Required to ascend and descend stairs; sit, stand, lift, bend, stoop, crawl and kneel. The employee must also use hands to finger, handle or feel. Occasionally reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing are required. May be asked to drive or travel by car, air, or other transportation for business purposes.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
