Finance and Accounting Manager

Location: Hybrid/Annapolis, MD

Fairwinds Technologies is looking for an experienced Finance and Accounting Manager to oversee and grow our Finance Department. This position will report to the CFO. The ideal candidate will have experience in the government contracting industry. Strong communication and financial analyst skills are a must to streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. The Accounting Manager will also produce thorough financial-status reports for senior managers to help improve operational efficiency and aid in continued growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and approve all data entered into accounting department record keeping systems and, ultimately, the general ledger and financial statements; oversee accurate and timely recording of all revenues and expenses
  • Manage Month end close accounting deliverables to ensure schedules are met.
  • Month End Close - including EAC's, Progress payments, Cost Plus Rate Variance calculations, Unearned / Unbilled Revenue recognition, Budget to Actual project analysis
  • Special accounting and process projects as assigned
  • Develop, review and update accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal control standards and required standards.
  • Manage relationship with outsourced accounting/book-keeping team.
  • Primary liaison with auditors (DCAA, DCMA, Bank, Insurance etc.)
  • Assist in bi-weekly payroll.
  • Manage Cost Pools and Indirect Rate calculations
  • Manage Financial systems user administration
  • Responsible for setting up projects in the financial system and maintaining integrity of the data.
  • Ensure that all outside filings (state registrations, tax filings etc.) are prepared and filed on a timely basis.
  • Assist with invoice submission in WAWF
  • Responsible for helping all the PMs utilize QB online to better manage their projects
  • Updating Revenue and Gross Margin Forecast twice per month working with PMs on delivery schedules, actuals.
  • Provide periodic financial analyses of operations, using the monthly financial results to initiate discussions and plans of action to address significant revenue and cost variances.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum five years plus of accounting/financial management experience, predominantly in Government Contracting.
  • Excellent analytical ability and organizational skills including priority setting and decision-making.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and work well with staff.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member

At Fairwinds, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location and experience.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time, exempt position.

Location

This position is Hybrid with Travel to the Annapolis, MD Area and occasionally to other Fairwinds offices as needed.
