Position Summary:

A Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Exhibits technical and operational proficiency solving problems of moderate complexity. Research focus on Cystic Fibrosis-related diabetes, CF pancreatic regeneration, and CF lung infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
  • Develop and initiate research designs, including the creation of research plans, execution, and coordination.
  • Formulate testable hypotheses and select appropriate methodologies.
  • Manage complex research tasks.
  • Perform and analyze data from multiplex ELISA, multiplex RNA assays, and single-molecule in situ analyses on cells and tissues.
  • Developed a ferret breeding program incorporating genetic management and bloodline relationship analysis.
  • Utilized commercial project management software (Smartsheet) to oversee multiple research and CRO projects.
  • Implemented business intelligence software (Power BI) to efficiently manage the ferret colony.
  • Ferret Colony Management: Manage transgenetic ferret breeding programs for ferret colonies, overseeing over 30 transgenic lines and managing 100 genotypic ferrets across two locations (MF and UI). lead weekly ferret planning meeting.
  • Contributes to completion of projects and programs in area of expertise.
  • May interface with internal and/or external stakeholders and provides guidance to research support roles.
  • Contract Research Organization (CRO) Project Management: Manage multiple CRO projects, encompassing both basic science and industry studies.
  • Ensure effective communication with corporate stakeholders, including PIs, CEOs, CSOs, and Science Manager.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
  • Writes grant proposals to procure external research funding.
  • Contribute as first author or co-author manuscripts for publication.
  • Present research findings at national professional conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Salary Range: $70,425 - $94,555

Qualifications

Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Masters degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
