Academic Hospitalist - The Department of Medicine at the University ofIllinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) seeks applicants for academichospitalists/internists to join a growing department known for innovativeeducational programs. The candidate will supervise the performance ofpatient care services on patients at a 642-bed, tertiary care, academic medicalcenter and will fully participate in the teaching programs for undergraduatemedical students and residents.

Theposition requires a medical doctorate (MD or DO) or foreign equivalent. Thecandidate must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, eligiblefor licensure in Illinois, and eligible for medical staff appointment at auniversity-affiliated hospital.

UICOMP is one of the threeregional campuses of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, one of thelargest public medical schools in the country. The Department of Medicine'shospitalists teach at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, a tertiary carefacility serving a 37-county region with a population of over 2 million people.A joint venture between UICOMP and OSF, the Jump Trading Simulation EducationCenter (https://www.jumpsimulation.org)is a world-class facility with over 40,000 square feet of space which providesthe highest level of clinical education, medical research, and training.

Position Summary

Providing care to patients and instruction to learners.

Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Serveas full-time hospitalist (attending physician of record or consultant) fortwenty-three (23) weeks per year thereafter on the University Hospitalist andTeaching Service (UHATS)'
  • Performor supervise the performance of patient care services and procedures onpatients
  • Collaborate with otherattending physicians and consultants
  • Assure orderly transfer ofcare to other physicians when assigned hours of service end
  • Reinforcehospitalist processes for patient care
  • Documentdaily involvement in patient care in the medical record and record chargesappropriate to the level of service provided and documented
  • Participate in performance improvement projectsdefined by the department chair

Resident/Student Education

  • Superviseresidents in an Ambulatory office when needed and not on service (average twohalf-days per month)
  • Perform internal medicinebedside teaching when assigned to UHATS to standards of the AccreditationCouncil for Graduate Medical Education
  • Participatein Morning Report daily while on service and most days when off-service
  • Provideat least one Grand Rounds yearly
  • Providelectures to residents and medical students
  • Work with the other core members of the faculty oncurriculum development and process improvement with the goal of exceptionalresident/student education

Administrative/Research

  • Assume responsibility for the business and fiscalactivities of the department through routine evaluation of coding anddocumentation, regular review of charges and charge capture, interaction withthe
  • University billing department, and other activities as appropriate tomaintain the fiscal health and regulatory compliance of the department
  • Serve on appropriate educational committees at theCollege of Medicine
  • Serve on appropriate hospital committees to improvethe quality of patient care
  • Function as a faculty person within the statutes ofthe University of Illinois and as a staff member within the by-laws of theuniversity-affiliated hospital(s)
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate to advancethe mission of the Department of Medicine.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess MD or DO or equivalent degree
  • Must be board certified or board eligible for certifying examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine or comparable certifying authority
  • Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois
  • Must be eligible for medical staff appointment at university-affiliated hospital
