Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position Overview
At Ted Kuhn Towers, we are committed to enriching the lives of our residents through transformative, meaningful, and engaging recreational experiences. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a key role in crafting and delivering customized therapeutic programs that not only enhance holistic well-being but also nurture a strong sense of community and purpose. If you're driven by the desire to make a lasting, positive impact and thrive in a person-centered, strengths-based environment, we invite you to join our dynamic team!
Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will provide therapeutic recreation services while upholding both our organizational policies and the standards set forth by the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA). This involves conducting thorough resident assessments, designing and facilitating tailored activities that meet individual needs and goals, and ensuring a safe, supportive environment throughout all programming. The role will require continuous evaluation, feedback integration, and close coordination with a variety of professionals and community partners to enhance service delivery. Collaboration with staff, volunteers, and external agencies will be essential. Contributing to the development of innovative programs and staying current with the latest best practices in the field through ongoing professional development will also be important.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field, or a diploma with at least 2 years of relevant experience. A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification (preferred or in progress), Class 4 Driver's License (preferred or in progress), and First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certifications are required.
Core competencies include strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and experience in mental health or therapeutic recreation settings. The candidate should have proficiency in program development, planning, and evaluation, as well as the ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a collaborative approach to working with residents, staff, and community partners are essential. The position requires physical ability, flexibility in working hours, and a commitment to building positive relationships.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
