JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Engineer is responsible for the review, management, and coordination of professional engineering work related to land development and various public works projects. The Senior Engineer reviews and manages multiple land development projects simultaneously, supervises staff, coordinates project development and progress with clients, and provides technical support for internal and external stakeholders.

Exercises independent engineering judgment, seals and signs review comments and technical memorandums when necessary, reviews the work of Associate and Assistant Engineers, and provides training and mentoring as necessary.

The Senior Engineer has the technical expertise and ability to function as a sole or primary project manager representing City staff for private development projects, and when necessary, make engineering decisions and act on behalf of City staff.

We only consider candidates living locally or within the State of CA. We do not pay any relocation expenses.

This position is available as full-time.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engineering plan review for the construction of private land development projects, including but not limited to grading and drainage, on-site private or public utilities, stormwater management plans, erosion control plans, and construction details for sound engineering practice and conformance with public agency standards.
  • Review of hydrology and hydraulic reports, sewer studies, water studies, and stormwater quality management reports for compliance with Regional Water Quality Control Boards' permitting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with approved tentative maps or other entitlement document and conditions of approval, and CEQA mitigation measures.
  • Engineering plan review for the construction of backbone utility and street infrastructure for large subdivisions throughout California and/or smaller infill redevelopment projects, including but not limited to street improvement plans and profiles, storm drain and sewer systems, and water facilities[ST1] .
  • Engineering plan review of off-site street improvements associated with private land development projects.
  • Coordinate project design approval efforts with stakeholders including but not limited to jurisdiction staff, developers, and design consultants.
  • Manage contracts and budgets.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of land development and public improvement design and/or plan review experience.
  • Current PE California License is required. Specialty certifications are highly desired.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic plan review, information sharing, and communication platforms such as Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft OneDrive & Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class "C" California driver's license is required.
  • Familiarity with public agency municipal codes and design standards.
  • Familiarity with the Entitlement process.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with the Subdivision Map Act.

  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment when dealing with deadlines and multiple projects.

The compensation for this position is $140,000 to $175,000 annually

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
