INTRODUCTION
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, the Lead Advance Practitioner Substance Abuse Provider's clinical leadership and drives safe, high-quality care resulting in improved patient outcomes. Oversees substance use disorder (SUD) services that are geared towards the enhancement of patient experience including detoxification, residential and outpatient services based on individual needs.

PERSONAL CONTACTS
The position requires contact with staff at all levels throughout the organization. There are also external organization relationships that may be a part of the work of this individual. Direct interactions with inmate population and correctional officers.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as books and paper is required.

The incumbent must be able to balance the needs of diverse constituencies on a daily basis.
RISKS
The position's work involves everyday risk and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, training rooms, and other UHC sites. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. All medical services shall be provided according to medically accepted community standards of care.

Oversees substance use disorder (SUD) services that are geared towards the enhancement of patient experience including detoxification, residential and outpatient services based on individual needs.
MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic services to adults suffering from the disease of addiction
- Develops and participates in screening programs for Alcohol, opioid use disorders, benzodiazepine addiction
- Practices independently and obtain medical histories and conducts physical examinations and evaluations as appropriate for this patient population in our Urgent care, Primary care and Infirmary (Hospital) settings, which includes detoxification from Alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, and methamphetamines.
- Prescribes, manage and adjust Suboxone, Methadone, Vivitrol, Benzodiazepines dosages to meet patients' needs. Develops treatment protocols and policies for the SUD/Pain management clinic.
- Leads Clinical Supervisor and is the point of contact for Office-Based Opioid Therapy and review safety event reports Nursing first point of contact for clinical issues.
- Participates in regular meetings with SUD program manager and nursing leadership
- Functions as Organizer and Participant for QI Committee for MOUD.
- Organizes QI outcome studies for NCCHC accreditation
- Knowledgeable about Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) Program
- Completes ACA Data reports for addiction treatment team along with DOC data team
- Provides brief counseling/ psychotherapy and motivational interviewing to residents
- Successfully tapers patients with Benzodiazepine addiction and offer other alternative treatments and submit referrals to Mental Health
- Assists Peer Navigators with arranging after care for addiction treatment at drug treatment facilities, methadone/Suboxone clinic
- Provides education and precepts NP residency students, medical students, residents, and fellows about substance abuse and medicated assisted treatment options.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree.
- Advanced Practice Certification (NP/PA preferred)
- Licensure: Current and valid license for Washington DC.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years of experience in correctional healthcare, emergency medicine, or primary care.
- Prior experience working in the intake, chronic care and sick call departments at Unity Health Care/DC DOC
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experienced in ability to provide ongoing assessment, evaluation of patients suffering from substance abuse disorders and formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans.
- Ability to provide harm reduction teaching, stabilization, and monitoring of patients in the ambulatory community-based treatment model.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other healthcare providers and lead a team of healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team will be essential in providing comprehensive patient care.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role, as well as working in a fast-paced healthcare environment with diverse patient populations.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Proficient in electronic medical records, Centricity EMR systems and CRISP.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Knowledge of correctional care regulations, including NCCHC and ACA standards
- Knowledge of Federal and State regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services.
