Job Summary

The Process Engineer coordinates activities of the Operations group to ensure the most efficient, effective, and safe manufacture of quality products.

Key Areas of Responsibility/Essential Functions
  • Achieve proficiency with key manufacturing unit operations via training with operators and engineers.
  • Manage initiatives under the guidance of the Operations Manager.
  • Troubleshoot plant process issues working directly with technicians/operators.
  • Develops process and procedure documentation and operator training materials.
  • Help develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure communication and deployment of management of change procedures.
  • Support new product and process commercialization.
  • Measure product quality, process capability, and yield utilizing statistical process control techniques.
  • Improve process efficiencies including first pass quality, productivity, and safety.
  • Provide plant support by coordinating and following new products with R&D from inception through product commercialization and full production hand off to operations.
  • Investigate downtime causes and complete appropriate recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Maintain and foster collaborative efforts between R&D, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Quality teams to identify, establish, and share best practices.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure appropriate safety, health and environmental factors are considered and adhered to throughout all aspects of the product development to commercialization process.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.

Formal Education / Certification Requirements- Essential Requirements
  • Four-year college degree in Engineering or related discipline (Chemical Engineering preferred)
  • 3+ years' experience preferred in manufacturing or chemical processing related industry
  • Ability to be reached by phone during off shift hours in case of scheduling or emergency need.
  • Must understand heat transfer, fluid flow, pumping, piping, and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills.

Preferred:
  • Able to obtain TWIC certification.
  • Read P&ID's and schematics.
  • Having previous experience with continuous chemical processing; within a high hazard environment is preferred.
  • Hands on with the ability to build rapport with operating, analytical, and maintenance technicians is extremely important.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
  • GMP knowledge preferred
  • Programing experience preferred

Physical Requirements / Working Environment and Conditions
  • Day to day work is in a production environment.
  • Tasks may at times be performed with exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Require the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and may take place in confined spaces.
  • Duties involve frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects up to 65lbs.
  • Must be able to frequently climb ladders to access mission critical operating equipment and obtain product samples. Some towers are over 100 feet tall.
