- Operational Leadership
- Oversee the daily operations of the Managed Transportation division, ensuring on-time and cost-effective shipment execution.
- Develop and implement operational strategies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for LTL shipments to optimize efficiency and service quality.
- Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operations specialists, dispatchers, and coordinators.
- Set performance objectives, conduct regular performance evaluations, and create professional development plans.
- Foster a collaborative, results-oriented work environment.
- Carrier Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with LTL carriers and other transportation providers to secure competitive rates and reliable service.
- Monitor carrier performance through regular scorecards, negotiations, and quarterly business reviews to ensure optimal service levels and cost savings.
- Continuous Improvement
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational data to identify areas for improvement.
- Champion process enhancements, technology adoption, and best practices for operational excellence.
- Lead cross-functional projects to streamline workflows and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Customer Relationship Management
- Collaborate with sales and account management teams to understand customer requirements, resolve service issues, and strengthen client relationships.
- Participate in customer meetings and business reviews to provide operational insights, updates, and strategic recommendations.
- Risk and Compliance
- Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations (FMCSA, DOT, etc.), as well as company policies.
- Develop and maintain risk management strategies for cargo liability, claims, and other operational risks.
- Budget and Financial Performance
- Oversee the department's budget, including operating expenses, labor costs, and carrier rates.
- Track and report on financial performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
- Reporting and Analytics
- Prepare regular operational reports for senior leadership, highlighting key metrics, trends, and strategic insights.
- Use data-driven analysis to guide decision-making and resource allocation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Talking, hearing, and using hands to operate computer equipment.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Job may require extended sitting or standing, use of standard office equipment.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), or similar logistics software.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; familiarity with BI tools is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
- Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational and problem-solving capabilities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree or MBA preferred).
- Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Proven track record in Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) shipping and carrier management.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Professional certification may be required in some areas.
