New Graduate Training Fellowship
Reports to: Fellowship Program Directors, Hospital Director, Medical Director
Program Goal: To train candidates to be confident, competent, and productive veterinarians by the end of this year-long fellowship.

Salary: Starting at $90,000/year
Educational Requirements: DVM or equivalent, NJ State Veterinary License.

Program Goal: To train candidates to be confident, competent, and productive veterinarians by the end of this year-long fellowship.
Responsibilities of Fellow:
- The year will be divided into three sections as follows:
- Section 1: Primary Care/Exotics Medicine
- Section 2: Emergency Medicine
- Section 3: Surgery
- Section 4: Specialty, Farm Animal (if applicable), Acupuncture
- Rotations in these departments will run 2 weeks at a time. Section 4 rotation will only be 2 weeks a quarter (8 weeks out of their year).
- For Section 2: Fellows are expected to attend hospital rounds at 7AM. The fellow will be assigned 1-3 hospitalized cases (duties for each patient to include examination of patient and record, adjusting treatment plan, calling owners and primary veterinarian [if applicable], making any adjustments needed during shift, and finalizing the medical record). Then the fellow may help with incoming ER cases. We also expect fellows to give rounds to the PM doctors. As time permits, fellows are encouraged to assist with surgeries/procedures even if not their case.
- For Section 3: Fellows are expected to arrive at 7AM for hospital rounds, and then complete exams on their surgery patients and check bloodwork.
- Fellows to attend weekly Fellow Rounds, where there will be an informal discussion on topics/difficult cases, communication issues, etc.
- Fellows are expected to see not only dogs and cats, but also exotics during this fellowship (with mentorship from the Exotics Department).
- Fellows will also be expected to attend meetings and mandatory enrichment lectures.
- Fellows will be asked to present two Morbidity & Mortality rounds during the year.
- Fellows will also be required to participate in Journal Club.
- Rounds are mandatory and are typically held Wednesday mornings from 8AM to 9AM or 9AM to 10AM.
Support Provided:
- The hospital will provide one-on-one instruction/oversight on all cases and surgeries with experienced veterinarians.
- Weekly informal Fellow Rounds to help hone communication skills and go over pertinent topics (see above).
- Lectures will be provided periodically.
- Quarterly performance reviews.
- Quarterly wet labs.
Vacation and Holidays:
- Fellows are allowed up to 3 weeks of vacation; we require 3 months' notice.
- If the fellow needs time off but does not want to use a vacation day, the fellow may switch shifts with other fellows.
- The hospital recognizes eight holidays: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. Fellows are expected to work half of the holidays (i.e., four-holiday shifts).
