Job Description

TheTechnology Consultants are the "face of Information Technology Services(ITS)" at Boston College. This is a unique position that focuses on theperson and the solution while representing ITS.

The purpose of the Technology Consultantposition is to leverage technical knowledge with exemplary communication andinterpersonal skills to assist customers in their daily interaction withtechnology. This position is responsible for providing local technical support,technical consulting, and technical communications in a designated work unit,while maintaining positive relationships with faculty and staff.

As a member of the 24 TechnologyConsultants team, this position also supports colleagues who support the otherdepartments at BC. The Technology Consultant also assists with implementing andmaintaining University hardware, software, and networking standards;collaborates with other ITS colleagues regarding issues requiring morespecialized technical skills; monitors the completion of problems including theescalation to specific IT areas; works with the trouble ticketing database toensure the highest level of customer service for members of the work unit;assesses the technology needs of the work unit and makes recommendations toaddress the developmental needs of the group; supervises the students assignedto provide technology support to the area; creates and maintains documentationas necessary; and provides consultation on technology purchase decisions asneeded. This position assists with security incident reporting or investigationwhen required.

The Technology Consultants are alsoresponsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships withdepartmental representatives to ensure that a high level of technology supportand service is delivered.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the followingtitles and hiring ranges:
SeniorTechnology Consultant Requires: A minimum of five years of progressivelyresponsible technical support experience. Salary range, 85k to 97k.
TechnologyConsultant Requires: A minimum of threeyears of technical support experience. Salary range, 75k to 88k.
AssociateTechnology Consultant Requires: A minimum of one year of technical supportexperience. Salary range, 65k to 79k.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in a technology discipline preferred.
- Direct experience supporting customers in a broad range of computingand communications technologies with strong analytical skills and a creativeapproach to problem solving.
- Demonstrated competency at simplifying complex situations andnegotiating successfully in a diverse environment with multiple stake-holders.
- Self-directed and motivated to keep abreast of emerging technologiesthat can be applied to daily computing support.
- Excellent communication skills, including responsiveness, follow-up,general communicability, approachability, and a desire to help all levels ofcustomers.
- Skills in multitasking, organization, and time management areessential.
- Expertise in using, installing, and troubleshooting desktopcomputers, FTP, voicemail, MS office suite, and e-mail.
- Experience with LINUX/UNIX, database software, terminal emulation,Active Directory, and ticketing tracking software a plus.
- Expertise in installing, maintaining and troubleshooting a number ofdepartment-specific applications
- This position requires a professional and positive manner.
- May be required to work additional hours to meet customer demand aswell as project/unit deadlines and timeframes.
