The Forensic Program Director, Rapid DNA is the company-wide expert for Rapid DNA services, and advises and assists with the planning, research, and scientific direction of strategic projects and initiatives for the company as it relates to Rapid DNA. Responsibilities include aligning operational protocols based on scientific research and feasibility, participating in the development of operational policies, procedures, and guidelines for the organization, and assisting with the business development team to support the company's strategic growth of the program. This role will be directly involved in a wide range of the company's key business and strategy decisions, be entrusted with sensitive company information, and will interact with senior leaders and external stakeholders on a regular basis.

Essential Functions:

Program Management:
  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of rapid DNA services to clients, ensuring project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met
  • Develop strategic plans to grow and scale the program in line with organizational goals

Client Engagement:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, understanding their needs and customizing DNA services to meet those requirements
  • Foster long-term relationships with clients, ensuring satisfaction and identifying opportunities for new business

Technical Oversight:
  • Ensure the proper implementation of rapid DNA technology, adhering to industry standards, legal regulations, and ethical practices
  • Coordinate with technical teams for setup, training, and maintenance of DNA analysis systems
  • Stay abreast of the latest scientific research, technologies and industry best practices related to Rapid DNA processing

Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure all DNA-related services comply with federal, state, and international regulations, including privacy and data security laws
  • Implement rigorous quality control measures to guarantee the reliability and accuracy of DNA results

Team Leadership:
  • Build and lead a team of experts, including scientists, technicians, and consultants, to execute professional services efficiently
  • Provide mentorship and training to team members to keep them updated on the latest developments in rapid DNA technologies

Reporting and Analysis:
  • Create and present regular reports on program performance, challenges, and opportunities to stakeholders
  • Analyze data trends to improve services and drive innovation
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience conducting forensic DNA testing, data analysis, and reporting in an accredited laboratory is preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong public speaking abilities
  • Proficiency in collecting forensic samples for DNA testing
  • Ability to foster positive customer relationships and provide scientifically sound answers to technical queries
  • General understanding of Rapid DNA processing in an operational environment
  • Skilled in explaining complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience training customers of varying expertise levels
  • General knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols and personal protective equipment
  • Understanding of requirements for uploading forensic DNA results to CODIS
  • Basic understanding of laboratory Quality Assurance programs
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a 24/7/365 business environment

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field Advanced degrees or certifications in forensic science or DNA analysis are a plus
  • Seven to ten plus years of experience in program management, preferably in biotech, forensic, or healthcare services
  • Expertise in rapid DNA technologies, including hands-on experience with DNA profiling equipment
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations such as ISO 17025, CODIS compliance, and GDPR
  • Knowledge of organizational maturity models or Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9000 or others

Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS security clearance; prior US government security clearances preferred
  • Strong technical aptitude and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities, building consensus among stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products
  • Natural problem solver with tenacity and collaborative negotiation skills, demonstrating strong resolve in challenging situations
  • High degree of customer service orientation, ensuring client satisfaction and trust
  • Experience in a United States Public Government Forensic Laboratory is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local government contracting and procurement processes is preferred
  • Must understand the strategic growth priorities of the company to assist the Senior Executive Team with developing tactical approaches for special initiatives that promote company growth
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
  • Must pass a motor vehicle record check and employer and government (eQip or eApp) background checks after accepting a conditional offer of employment
