Director/Department Chair, Physician Assistant Program
Frostburg State University seeks qualified applicants for the Director/Department Chair of the Physician Assistant program. This position is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty position (open rank) with administrative responsibilities and limited teaching requirements. The PA program is based at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH). Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; University System of Maryland benefits package included.

Responsibilities:
- The Director/Department Chair leads and coordinates a Master's-level Physician Assistant program. The Director/Department Chair, reporting to the Dean, is responsible for administration of the program. A key responsibility is to ensure a solid foundation with respect to compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards and activities.
- The Director leads faculty in developing, updating, and evaluating curriculum, delivering high-quality instruction and assessing program effectiveness.
- The Director/Department Chair is involved with clinical practice and clinical site development.
- The Director leads the efforts to recruit, mentor, and develop talented faculty and staff and is also responsible for faculty coordination.
- Duties also include program promotion along with limited teaching and instruction assignments, as well as professional development and scholarly activities and service to the university, college, and community.
- The Director is responsible for developing and maintaining ongoing program evaluation and outcomes assessment processes of the PA program consistent with ARC-PA Standards.
- The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the PA program including supervising the Medical Director, the Directors of Clinical and Didactic Education, other faculty, and staff.
- Other responsibilities include leading the department activities in academic advising.
- The Director also participates in student recruitment, evaluation of prospective students, and selection of students for admission to the program. In addition, the successful candidate will work with the Medical Director and curriculum committee in aligning the PA program with accreditation standards and preparing all the documents needed to maintain accreditation.
- An essential duty is representing the PA Program to external and internal stakeholders.
- The Director/Department Chair is also responsible for managing the program's fiscal resources and facilities along with fiscal management (budget planning, development and management) of the program, mission statement reviews, and overall program evaluations.
- The Director will assist the Director of Clinical Education in acquiring, developing, and monitoring the of acquisition, development, and monitoring of clinical sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an ARC-PA Accredited PA Program
- Current or Emeritus NCCPA Certification
- Master's degree required
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland;
- At least three years of higher education experience at time of appointment;
- Knowledge of PA program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous programmatic review and analysis, program planning, program development, completion of ARC-PA required documents and adherence to the Standards and ARC-PA policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of clinical experience working as a physician assistant;
- Five or more years of clinical experience;
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience with increasing level of responsibility;
- Experience as a program director or other administrative position in an accredited PA program is highly desirable;
- Evidence of interest in research/scholarly activities;
- Participation/leadership in local, regional, or national PA or other medical organizations including peer (faculty) mentoring
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and problem solving; and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and clinical partners
