JOB SUMMARY
The Program Director III will work as a member of a productive and collaborative team consisting of scientists, physicians, research assistants, staff, interns, students, and community partners to operationalize the Comprehensive Cancer Center's Community Outreach and Engagement and Disparities (COE-D) initiatives. As the Director of Operations for COE-D, this position leads a team across two campuses whose mission is to facilitate community engagement, clinical care and research focused on improving the outcomes in the catchment area, with a focus on underserved populations in the community, increasing representation in clinical trials and working with faculty and programs across the cancer center to infuse health equity and to solidify it as a primary focus.
This position plans, develops, implements, evaluates, and manages operations related to all COE-D activities including raising awareness of cancer health equity issues in the institution and to the community. This position combines administrative management, academic research, and community engagement skills. Works with leadership in determining strategic goals and ensures decisions are implemented in a positive and timely manner. This position requires the use of judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the office.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in Public Health, Social or Behavioral Science, Education, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in minority health, population research, community engagement and outreach, or education; or a combination of education and experience. Experience in proposal development for federal agencies (particularly the National Institutes of Health), state agencies or foundations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead strategic operations of the Cancer Center COE-D over two campuses and across the catchment area. Work with leadership to define and execute the Comprehensive Cancer Center's strategic vision for cancer health equity, community outreach, and engagement, including the development of new programs. Responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the day-to-day operations of COE-D. Lead COE-D managers and staff distributing projects, assignments, and responsibilities. Creates evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements. Tracks progress towards goals with defined metrics and continuously analyzes systems and processes. Develops and implements best practices and appropriate changes to improve outcomes in a timely manner. Assists leaders with budget development and planning and overseeing the financial position of all COE-D funds (sponsored and unsponsored), ensuring all budgets and guidelines are followed. Support Cancer Center members, senior administrators, and leaders to provide technical assistance and foster cancer disparities and community engaged research. Draft literature reviews, progress reports and educational materials as well as contribute to the writing of scientific papers for publication. Lead and/or contribute to the writing of grant proposals and budget preparation and work with faculty to coordinate the successful and timely completion of tasks on COE-D grants/contracts. This includes the implementation, data collection, and analysis phases and writing and dissemination of results. Coordinate with community partners to engage them in the goals of COE-D and the Cancer Center's programs. Represent COE-D and the Cancer Center in meetings within the institution and with leaders in the community and across the country; including formal and informal presentations. Develops appropriate communication and communication methods to facilitate the flow of information and maximize effective communication throughout the Cancer Center regarding the catchment area and other COE-D related initiatives. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
