Indian Prairie School District 204, located in Naperville and Aurora, Illinois, is seeking an outstanding educational leader at the STEPS Transition Program who will help us achieve our mission of inspiring all students to achieve their greatest potential. The District serves over 25,000 students. This full-time Principal position starts July 1, 2025 and is a 12 month, permanent position. The Principal is primarily responsible for the implementation of curriculum and instruction within the building. The position is also responsible for the supervision of post secondary students while providing leadership to staff in establishing a vision toward a quality learning environment, and to manage building operations.
Job Summary:
Implement and monitor the District's special education procedures and programs in compliance with the Illinois School Code and other laws and regulations. Implement the vision, mission, and goals for the STEPS transition program in conjunction with the members of the Student Services Team. Oversee and manage the daily operations of the STEPS Transition Program. Interview, recommend for employment, and evaluate licensed teaching and related service staff as assigned. Manage staffing including allocations and location and forecast budgeting for the program. Manage and respond to staff and student concerns. Develop the master schedule for teaching staff and related service staff as well as student schedules for the Transition Program ensuring appropriate class size, TA assignments, and bussing needs. Provide training and consistent monitoring and compliance with special education policies and procedures. In coordination with the Student Services Department, plan and coordinate professional development and provide job embedded continuous support and training appropriate for the transition population. Consistently demonstrate effective communication with parents, building administration, and staff. Participate in budget development and staffing projections discussions. Monitor and assist program staff to ensure the curriculum is implemented with integrity and fidelity.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education, students, and staff, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, IDEA, and FERPA. Thorough knowledge of interventions, materials, resources, and practices related to social-emotional learning, positive behavior supports and educational best practices and instruction and behavior. Demonstrated competence in leadership, management, interpersonal relations and communications. Ability to work collaboratively with school and district personnel. Ability to establish and maintain effective organizational and community relationships. Capacity to effectively and efficiently organize and prioritize information, develop short and long range plans that are appropriately comprehensive, realistic, and effective in meeting special education program goals; and integrate planning efforts across special education areas. Ability to maintain and instill high standards of ethics and integrity. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to prepare oral or written communications for distribution to employees, students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth. Ability to plan and implement professional development for teaching staff. Ability to anticipate and address problems that may arise in a resourceful and consistent manner. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Qualifications:
Illinois Professional Educator License with either General Administrative, Principal, or Director of Special Education endorsements preferred
Solid understanding of special education legal requirements and processes required
Prior successful special education experience preferred
Rate of pay: Salary range is $149,661 - $185,607. Salary is commensurate with experience.
